Well, let me share my take on this.
In real life, most people would describe me as really quiet. I have speech and social problems, so I can't always express what I'm thinking - not even basic things like what I want for dinner - very well when I'm talking to people in person, face-to-face.
On the internet though, it's different. I can say whatever I want because I'm not impeded by anything. A lot of people have read the stuff that I've typed up on my computer and have been surprised that a simple quiet person like me has such a complex, erratic thought stream. One of my friends even described it as 'scary'.
So I may not be as nice as I am when I'm quiet as I am when I'm able speak freely, but it's a lot better than not being able to say anything at all in my opinion. I wish I could talk like this in real life, but I can't. I can't really explain why. :/

Yes it's sad to say most people do. Some people my find it easier to say what they really think on the screen but when it comes to face to face they can't. Some of it it is because sonetimes they can't prove you said it or that it was really you.
I'm really quite sometimes even a mute but when it's comes to things like Facebook and other social sites my language and manours change. I think it's cause it give you a bit more confidence knowing that you can stand up for your self even if it's not the face.
