    Default organising a charity event

    I having been thinking of organising a charity event but i am unsure of how to go about organising it, i know i would need to make some flyers to advertise the event, find a venue, i know what my theme would be of dress code etc but would i need to do anything else? declare it to the vat man or not if the money that is made from the disco all goes to charity? has anyone else organised a charity event before and if you have any tips or advice it would be greatly appreciated. Id like to raise the money to help find a cure for cancer, it is 2012 and there is still not a cure found yet for this horrible disease that so many have to suffer with, at least not to our knowledge

    If you have decided which charity you want to fund raise for, surely you can contact them and they will give you packs/information leaflets about fundraising?? I'm sure a lot of large charities have that sort of stuff ready.

    People are very weary of donating to private parties such as what you are intended to do. (so many people have ripped off fundraisers just to get the money of out it )
    It would probably be better if you were to host a legit fundraiser
    You can contact many organizations that will help you set up a donation box that you can actually use online. Heres one but theres many you can google.

    Jenna people may be weary but i dont want to just stop a charity event just because some might think the money is not going to charity, i will register myself if i have to and make a speech at the event so everyone knows where their money is going, i am also doing it for the fun side of it, its going to be a fancy dress theme night which id like to be a great fun night for everyone, it is based on a famous film that majority of people know of and love and dedicated to a certain actor who died of cancer, also my auntie died of cancer so another reason id like to do it! thought i could maybe give away some prizes for best outfit or something, it would not be as fun to fundraise online

    Over the years of the many charity events I have participated in, doing a walk for cancer is probably your best bet of getting people to help out. Just find a legit source to donate to, like Cancer Society's, and then do as you mentioned; post flyers, put it in the newspaper, go to other events and advertise it, etc. Good luck
    Do what you feel in your heart to be right--

    for you'll be criticized anyway.

    so you dont think a charity disco could work then? i thought it was a good idea, i dont want to do a sponsored walk. people are always doing that and its OK but i want to do something that is different, fun and lively with music and a memorable event and it would be a great challenge to encourage people to go to it

    I heard they found the cure for cancer already, but of course the government won't let it be used because there is too much money in cancer patients. sadly.
    You could try throwing like a small carnival or like you said a disco but just make sure you get the right information and right things down. I would try talking to charities that are made specifically for cancer and see what they could help you with..

    My good friend Bobby Gunn, when he fought James Toney for a version of the world title, sold TEAM GUNN t-shirts and the prociepts went to an anti-bullying charity. Sometimes it just takes one person's initiative to help make the world a better place even for just one person out there in need of help. Keep up the progress, and keep the word out there.

    But He was wounded for our transgressions,
    He was bruised for our iniquities;
    The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
    And by His stripes we are healed.
