We all know jon is a nasty hoe and has a million std's
    Jk jk XD
anyways they do test the blood after its received so if somebody has HIV they would know but there is a very small chance that it could go unnoticed. So they usually make sure the person dosent have any diseases like that like with the whole Jon problem then take the blood and test it again a couple times. I think they can clean out the blood if the person has Hiv and such or something like that but of course this would be if the person has the rarest of blood and i think there is a 1 percent chance of there still being HIV viruses left behind but then again the whole cleaning thing could just be something im mistaking for something else

Default 'Archaic' blood donation ban may change

Possible changes in policy at Canadian Blood Services may be good news for gay men restricted from donating blood

    From CBC News

Canadian Blood Services is looking at revising its lifetime ban on blood donations from men who've had sex with other men. The organization recently met with members of the gay community to discuss changing the restriction to five to 10 years.

Canadian Blood Services is pushing forward to lift the lifetime blood donation ban put on men who have had sex with other men. The organization is currently putting together its first-ever request to Health Canada to change that policy.

This is good news to people like Vicki Kett with the Access AIDS Network in Sudbury, who said the current ban is archaic and incorrectly assumes that only men who have sex with other men get HIV.

"With today's present blood supply I don't see why a group such as gay men should be excluded,” Kett said. “It seems to baffle me because, when I see people who are at risk, they're male, female, young [and] old."

Dallas Bushie hasn't been able to donate blood since he openly admitted being gay. He said he was in a monogamous, heterosexual relationship prior to 2004 and donating blood was not an issue.

"I cannot give blood because I'm with a man, and that frustrates me,” he said. “My blood is no different than anyone else’s."

    Have to be 'cautious'

Bushie is one of thousands of men affected by the Canadian Blood Services lifetime restriction on blood donations which stops men from donating if they have had sex with another man since 1977.
    Bushie said it's discrimination.

"It's almost a paintbrush that, if you're gay, then you've had promiscuous sex,” he said.

“They're telling me that I can't have a loving, intimate relationship with my husband as a straight man can with his wife."

Canadian Blood Services recently met with members of the LGBT community and other community stakeholders to discuss changing the restriction to five to 10 years, said the organization’s spokesperson Ron Vezina. He said there is more to consider than simply donor prejudice.

"Given the history of the blood system we have to be very cautious and we must remember that recipients who are infused with blood products bear 100 per cent of the risk — it’s not the donor,” he said.

Vezina said Canadian Blood Services hopes to submit the policy change request this fall to Health Canada.

    ------------------

It's a start in the right direction. If they're to 'change the restriction to five to ten years', it should apply to everyone (hetero, homo, bi) not just gays.

I believe that everyone should be able to give blood------ BUT got to say gays should not feel as if they are picked on over this matter, because it is a well known gays have more partners than other relationships and should understand reasons why that the situation is like it is so more chances of problems.

This said I am sure things will improve

All homo, bi and hetero have an equal chance of having multiple partners.

The reason why the ban was originally put into placed during the coming of the AIDS pandemic was due to the lack of understanding. The only thing people knew at that time was that abnormally large number of gays were contracting AIDS and HIV. We now have more information regarding AIDS/HIV than when the ban was placed on gay men donating blood.

However, recent study done by the NWGHAAD has shown that in America, females are one of the fastest growing demographic for AIDS/HIVs cases. In 2010, 25% of Americans living with HIV are females and that number is rising rapidly. In 1980s, only 15% of Americans with AIDS/HIV were females. By 2030, if the trends continues, that number may very well rise (in theory) to 35% of Americans living with HIV/AIDS to be females.

I will agree on one thing that :All ****, bi and hetero have an equal chance of having multiple partners

The fact is gays have far more partners by way more and the chance of getting an infection is more likely and passing it on due to the amount of partners they have.

yes there was a lack of understanding way back because it was known as the gay plague through lack of peoples

narrow thinking - that you could only get aids if you were gay.

But I am afraid to say unless people especially gays dont wrap it up b4 having *** its going to happen .

The main reason why gay/bi and such have high numbers of having HIV and AIDs is because after the AIDs epidememic and during a sub culture of gay/bi men who had HIV and such, started . People at the time were getting HIV and AID to be different and to be accepted in to this culture. Kinda like how a person might get tattoos to fit in with other people. But stuff like this is still going on, people getting HIV and AIDs to be accpected in to that culture. But although some people get HIV on purpose to be accpected in to that culture, a lot of people get it so they can have *** without using condoms, "bareback" as its called, and so they have *** with anybody that comes there way and such. But this is bad either way because there is the risk of getting other strains of HIV and other STDs and HIV is bad to began with.

Technically the AIDS pandemic (not epidemic) is still ongoing. Where are you basing your information from? What you're suggesting is absolute hearsay. What is known is that AIDS/HIV transmit easily by anal sex as opposed to vaginal sex.

How old are you? The situation you are describing is called a 'bug-chaser'. Bug-chaser are in very very small numbers in gay society.
