Well then its wrong to say that 'only gay men can't donate blood' because that itself screws up what the author intended.

'Only' is for deductive arguments, not inductive which seems to be the way Jon is heading for.

If Jon was rejected from giving blood because he told them that he had sex with another guy, why didn't he simply lie about it? The donated blood gets tested anyway does it not?

    Thumbs down MSM referrals

Out of interest I looked up Wikipedia on the different restrictions on giving blood in various countries and most countries have some sort of restriction or as some diplomatically describe ‘referral’ on MSM (Men having *** with men) I was amazed to find that Poland a somewhat homophobic country has the following what seems to me enlightened policy in place:

“People of any s.exual orientation involved in any kind of s.exual activity are welcome to donate blood, if they are confident that their s.exual behaviour is safe and does not expose them to s.exually transmitted diseases by i.e. unprotected s.ex with non-trusted partners, whether gay-, bi- or hetero”.

See like i was saying, the only reason i can think of, of a gay male not being able to donate blood is the rate of HIV being high among them

Sounds like the blood donation aren't tested for STD or any diseases for that matter. If that is the case, the entire blood supply that has been donated should be destroyed and started again with testing each blood donation.

If donation of blood are later tested, there shouldn't be any reason to restrict anyone based on sexuality, ethnics, gender, etc.

With those two different scenarios proposed, the common notion of 'a high rate of HIV among gays' is an irrelevant point to barred them from donating blood.

    Sorry I haven't been on..
    yes
Bacon is right.. they say they don't allow it because the STD rate is higher.

And what Tyson said If they already test it why is it a problem? i don't know I forgot to ask..

AND the reason i said yes to having *** with men is because i didn't know that i couldn't give blood because of it

It's actually their policy, at least here in America.

    Discrimination
Red Cross blood donation policies discriminate against gay people.

It's important to understand that blood safety is a public health issue, not a social policy issue. The Red Cross is required by law to follow all Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines and recommendations for the blood industry, including the current deferral of men who have had *** with other men.
    Directly from their website.

A bit silly if you ask me 'cause not just gay men contract HIV. In fact, African Americans have similar rates to that of gay men, yet they aren't discriminated against?

    From the CDC website:
    Black/African American 21,652
    Male-to-male sexual contact 23,846
When I was in high school, there were tons of lesbians at my school and every time we'd have a blood drive, they'd be able to donate, as well as the guys who were gay, so I think they're just strictly no on gay males, but yes on lesbians. Don't know how the guys managed to donate, but yeah.

I've donated before. The form asked if I had unprotected *** in the last year, which I answered no to [only if answered yes to ''have you had *** with a man."] - simply because, I haven't.

I've done it twice at the local surgery in my nearest town, they have my records as it's my doctor who does it, and it's him I always go to to get blood taken for HIV tests. All clear. But hurts like a bitch and I hate needles.

Don't lie. They don't tell anyone if you pot the brown.
