Republican Sarah Palin has Tweeted her support for American fast food chain Chick-Fil-A as it faces a PR battle over its presidents anti-gay comments.

Republican Sarah Palin has Tweeted her support for American fast food chain Chick-Fil-A as it faces a PR battle over its presidents anti-gay comments.
The former Governor of Alaska also posted a picture on Facebook of her and her husband inside a Chick-Fil-A store with their bagged food orders.

The fast food chain has been at the centre of controversy since the company’s president Dan Cathy said in a radio interview: "I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage.’

"I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about."

Last week the company issued a statement in response to Mr Cathy’s comments via Facebook, declaring that they treat everyone with “honor, dignity and respect – regardless of their belief, race, creed, ***ual orientation or gender.”

Chick-Fil-A added: “We will continue this tradition in the over 1,600 Restaurants run by independent Owner/Operators. Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-*** marriage to the government and political arena.”

The restaurant received further attention this week when the company’s vice president of relations Don Perry died on Friday, reportedly suffering a massive heart attack.

Gay rights groups are calling for a boycott of the company, while the Mayor of Chicago Rahm Emanuel has told the company they are not welcome in the city because of their anti-gay views.

Should business be getting involved in politics in this way?

Default Countering Chick-fil-A, Amtrak and other firms bask in gay pride

By Victoria Cavaliere from New York Daily News

You better think twice, Chick-fil-A: The same week that the fast food chain faced criticism over its president’s opposition to same-sex marriage, the train company unveiled a new campaign targeting gay and lesbian customers.

    Amtrak shows its pride.

One of T-shirts Target is selling to raise money for a group working to defeat a gay marriage ban in Minnesota. The Minneapolis-based retailer is taking heat from same-sex marriage opponents in its home state.

The same week that controversy erupted over Chick-fil-A’s opposition to same-sex marriage, Amtrak unveiled a marketing campaign aimed at its gay and lesbian clientele.

The “Ride With Pride” program promotes “extremely gay-friendly” destinations, including California wine country and Martha’s Vineyard.

“It makes good business sense to target a population that is a friend of the rails, a friend of rail travel,” said Amtrak spokesman Cliff Cole, who was unsure how many tickets were sold through the promotion.

Oreo is getting some heat for posting a photo of a rainbow cookie Monday for gay pride month.

The initiative was rolled out around the same time restaurant chain Chick-fil-A made national headlines after president Dan Cathy said the company is "guilty as charged" of opposing same-sex marriage.

Fallout for Chick-fil-A continues to be mixed, but even as Cathy stands behind his polarizing remarks, other companies are making a concerted effort to court gay and lesbian customers.

Kraft Foods posted a photo of a rainbow-hued Oreo cookie to its Facebook page in June -- earning 2,000 comments and the threat of a boycott.

That same month, Target’s website began selling t-shirts with rainbows and slogans like “harmony” and “pride” as part of a fundraiser to support a marriage equality group.

Even formerly conservative companies are opening their marketing camapaigns to gay and lesbian customers, whose buying power is expected to reach $790 billion this year, marketing firm Witeck Communications told the Los Angeles Times.

Hotel mega-chain Marriott International, which once had Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney as a corporate board member, this spring launched a massive campaign targeting gay travelers. The "Be You, With Us," is widely promoted on the corporate website, which also declares “We’re proud to say Marriott was one of the first hotel companies to offer equal benefits to same-sex couples nationwide.”

So far, Amtrak said it hasn’t seen any backlash to the “Ride With Pride” campaign.

“Our policy is to welcome all segments of the population,” Cole said.

Default Chik-Fil-A: "Marriage is between one man, one woman."

Jesus preaches love, or at least at the last sermon I went to of Pastor Mike's, that was still the case. Yet here is chik-fil-a, a christian restaurant, speaking out and preaching hate. What was the point of the "ttand up for traditional marriage values" day, other than to show how much *******uals are not tolerated in America, the land of the FREE? Whom in God we trust? Is that not the exact opposite of what Jesus tried to teach us? Did ****** not "have God on his side" during the Holocaust? Did the white supremacist not "have God on their side" every time a lynching occurred? This is a slap in the face to Christians everywhere, yet so many are falling into this trap. I find it fascinating how "Jesus loves you" as you were "made in His image" yet man's own interpretation of the Bible was just that. Man's. God may have spoken it, but it was man that wrote it, and that means that it is flawed. Every person that went to chik-fil-a that day showed hate and discrimination against God's fellow creations, and that is sad. So often people tell me, well I have read His word, and I know it to be true. So you've read something, big deal. Have you tried talking to Him about it, instead of going off of man's interpreted words? I used to struggle with this same thing, until I realized I needed to talk to Him for myself and see. So long as I'm being the Christian He expects of me, I don't think He is going to send me to Hell for a preference He gave me. This is like history repeating itself in my eyes. A hundred years ago instead of *******uality being discussed, it was slavery. Yet look at where that is at now. There are too many occurrences in the past of hate being covered up as sent out as His law, yet He has seen that it be corrected. In the end, God will show His plans, for there may be a war between us people going on, but He is the one that decides who will win it. Chik-fil-a has donated over $5 million dollars to anti-gay organizations in the last 5 years, promoting hate.

I don't see why not. The whole 'business into politics' has some elements of lobbying.

The way I see it instead of lobbying behind closed doors on capital hill, these lobbying are taking place in the public life.
