Republican Sarah Palin has Tweeted her support for American fast food chain Chick-Fil-A as it faces a PR battle over its presidents anti-gay comments.
Republican Sarah Palin has Tweeted her support for American fast food chain Chick-Fil-A as it faces a PR battle over its presidents anti-gay comments.
The former Governor of Alaska also posted a picture on Facebook of her and her husband inside a Chick-Fil-A store with their bagged food orders.
The fast food chain has been at the centre of controversy since the company’s president Dan Cathy said in a radio interview: "I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage.’
"I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about."
Last week the company issued a statement in response to Mr Cathy’s comments via Facebook, declaring that they treat everyone with “honor, dignity and respect – regardless of their belief, race, creed, ***ual orientation or gender.”
Chick-Fil-A added: “We will continue this tradition in the over 1,600 Restaurants run by independent Owner/Operators. Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-*** marriage to the government and political arena.”
The restaurant received further attention this week when the company’s vice president of relations Don Perry died on Friday, reportedly suffering a massive heart attack.
Gay rights groups are calling for a boycott of the company, while the Mayor of Chicago Rahm Emanuel has told the company they are not welcome in the city because of their anti-gay views.
Should business be getting involved in politics in this way?
