I'm well aware that this is a World Event relation as it's related to the Glasgow Bombings, but I thought it'd be decent to put it in here where Adults could speak instead of ''How do you wake up thread?'' where we all know we wake up moody and dying for a piss.

As you may have heard, John Smeaton from Glasgow ''risked his life'' into catching the culprit/s of the Glasgow Bombings.
He's been hailed a hero all over the world and in the newspaper today [The Sun for you Brits], the Queen has ordered that he be given a gong of some sort or a medal for his bravery.
Also, he now has a website dedicated to him:

In my opinion, I think it's a bloody joke.
The man was on TV exaggerating rumours of what happened.
The Asians were not shouting ''Allah'' when he emerged from the blazing fire.

Most of my friends and I think it's a farce.
Mainly because he retorted on tv with immature statements such as ''Yer no hittin the polis man'', and ''Come tae Glesgi and we'll set aboot ye.''
Translations:
''You're not hitting the police.''
''Come to Glasgow and we'll set about you.'' - meaning, they'll kick your heads in.

Question is.. do you think he should be awarded, after what he said about kicking people's heads in if they come to Glasgow?
Some 'bravery' when he's talking about creating violence.

What's your thoughts?

Well Basil you know in the UK they love to place the ordinary man on the street on a pedestal, sometimes knowing that when placed in the public eye they'll blot their copybook, and make some gaffe.

However if he's going to be given an award then so should the other people who intervened too. I've not heard what he actually said about what these guys were shouting, but I doubt they had time to shout anything considering they were busy pouring petrol on themselves. Maybe they shouted "Anyone got a light?"

On the website they made for him, there's ******* videos of his interview with the reporters. Although it's hard to even hear a word he said. I found it hard trying to understand what he said when I watched him on TV.

It's just ironic how someone as moronic as him is gonna be given a medal, when he incrimated that he'd set about them: meaning the Asians [I guess], because he was on about them.
Seems rather racist, as not all Muslims are like that. I wouldn't give him anything for that, except a boot to the head.

Perhaps he said that because that's the kind of guy he is. His idea of a good Saturday night out is to go down the pub, sink 15 pints with a couple of chasers. Then afterwards stroll along to the nearest chippy and buy cod and chips or whatever you jocks eat. On his leisurely stroll home with his equally drunken mates, he probably slings racial abuse at anyone with a tanned skin or gives them a kicking. There are people who live like that and will say it's not racial or violence, just messing around.

And you know something, regardless of what people say racism is alive and kicking, though a lot more subtle than it used to be. Sure people still call black people the N word, and of course all Asians are P...s, but even then they make sure it's aimed at someone on their own or smaller. Don't believe all this "I'm not racist.......I have black/brown/yellow friends."

Slightly off topic, but when my friend from New York was here the other year, he visited Scotland. Said he found it a great place, but everyone he saw had a broken nose or teeth missing where they've been in fights.

Lol, I'm pretty sure the drunks go to the nearest Indian and scoff Kebab and chips here, or a curry.

Funny though, they go to buy food from them, after calling them racial names. Have to laugh at the hypocrisy of the idiots.

I do agree.. some people forget that even if they have mixed race friends, they forget they're being racist towards them, even if it's aimed at other mixed race people.

You'll find Scotland's very violent in some places. It's really bad for drunken violence. When I was in Edinburgh, half the people in the town centre were either junkies, neds, chavs, drunks or tramps. Funnily enough, near enough all of them have broken teeth and whatnot. No idea why your friend loved this place.. it's a dump, and unsafe to walk around alone in this day and age. =/

scotlands very violent in places and really bad for drunken violence.omg use make me laugh.everywhere has good and bad.and everywhere has junkies,neds and chave's.and just because u seen these ppl doesnt mean to say they r scottish,we do not all go about with broken teeth or broken noses as cats friend said,and as i said already doesnt mean to say all the ppl ur friend seen were scottish.and edinburgh is as safe as anywhere to walk around,so dont talk alot of rubbish,there are alot of decent ppl in scotland and edinburgh as there are in every country.so as u said in ur other post dont tar us all with the same stick.
u mentioned in one of ur other post that this guy was being racists. pot kettle and black springs to mind here.
there was more than this guy involved in helping with this bombing incident,and who will also be recieveing something from the queen i expect,like the guy who ended up with a broken leg and lost a couple of teeth for his bravery,and he didnt spout of any of the crap this john did.

You obviously failed to see the facetiousness of some of our comments Short, and have taken them literally.

And actually those my friend did see were Scottish. Least he assumed they were having a scottish accent. Also when I touched on the racism part I did not specifically say this occurs only in Scotland.....it happens everywhere you go.

so he spoke t every person he seen, idoubt that,and we dont all have broken noses n teeth, most who r in edinburghs town centre come from else where not all r from scotland,especially if the tattoo is on or the edinburgh festival.
and the racist part was aimed at eternal flame not u,she said that john guy was being racist.so is she slagging of scotland/edinburgh.
