The New Diet Pill
What does everyone think of this pill? It's the first over-the-counter diet pill approved by the FDA....

I think...
..that people need to get off their fat ass and exercise.
If they are to lazy to exercise and lose weight..
..how would a pill help?
It wouldn't.
They didn't learn anything.
They are just going to get fat again because they didn't change anything.
**** the shortcuts...
...take the long way or you might as well go back to the starting line because you sure as hell didn't go anywhere else.
...and don't be dumb ass and tell me something like...
" The pill doesn't take off the weight just by itself, you have to make changes and take the pill."
...I know that.
If you have to make changes...then why not just forget the pill?
Forget it.
Damn technology...
...people forget how to live....
..because living is to hard for them...
....

I think I saw that on tv this morning. [Edit: yea, Alli, that.]
It was like, you can't just try it, you have to commit (to low calories and carbs).
Like so and so said, try doing that without the pill first.
If I was to try a diet pill though, I'd probably go for that one simply because it is approved.
But... that commitment thing... no.
Props for reading SFgate.

It's great if you want to lose weight and risk shitting your pants while you're at it. BSN's 'Cheaters' is a lot better in my opinion, and last I checked, it doesn't carry the risk of shitting uncontrollably at any given time like this one. Cheaters does:
Reduces the absorption of sugar and fat calories
Directs calories into lean muscle instead of fat tissue
Combined with diet and exercise that would do a lot more than Alli. Though I've never been a fan of supplements to begin with. Here's why:
If you can take this pill that means you are not so fat that you cannot move, because if you were that fat that means you probably need surgery. A pill would do nothing at that stage. If you can walk around, you can burn calories. It's simple math. Put out more than what you take in.
Honestly, obesity is the result of ignorance or selfishness 99% of the time and this pill is aimed directly at that ignorance. It's just as stupid as that stupid pink ribbon you see everywhere to help cure breast cancer, forgetting that lung cancer kills twice as many women as breast cancer, not even adding the amount of men it kills into that equation.

I don't think that that needed to be brought up.
Who cares if it kills more, it's still helping, not like it's going to a bad cause.

It didn't need to be brought up, but it's the same thing.
People buy things with the pink ribbon out of ignorance - same with this pill. The alternative to the pill would be a good diet, exercise regimine, and supplements that can do basically the same thing without the negative side effects.
Now think about that pink ribbon - Who is it marketed at? Women. They sympathize for those with breast cancer, and want to buy things with that ribbon on it so they can help a good cause while getting their vanity. You can put that pink ribbon on anything, and people do for the sake of sales, not to help the cause.
If you wanted to do something truly good, you'd donate your money straight to an organization that is proven to be good.

I think people rely on pills for everything far too much.
People end up dependant on chemicals because every time they sneeze they pour antibiotics down their neck and tell their own body's immune systems to go for a break and relax, the chemicals will take care of it all.
We're a complex biological system and we interfere with our natural systems far too much as it is.
Now we say "shovel as much crap down your gullet as possible, it's OK, you can take a pill". Then we are going to act all surprised when our bodies just need pharmaceuticals because they can't do anything naturally.
And before you throw that thing about some people having different metabolisms yadda yadda...I KNOW lifestyles that are often forced upon us through work etc and people's differences make things harder for some people than others. But this REALLY should be a LAST resort if long-term health and well-being are important (which they should be)

A last resort would be surgery. Before that stage there are other alternatives as I pointed out that don't carry these side effects.
That's why I think this pill is pretty worthless even as a supplement.

Well, OK, I meant a last resort before more extreme solutions, but point taken
