How much is a human life worth?
I heard about this true, real-life story on Thursday and I have to say I'm still shocked by it,if it's not in the approripate forum, I'm sure a UM can move the thread.
In Sydney,on a train ,on a western line, there are three girls sitting on a bench ,two of these girls are toga's (maori) and there is an aussie girl sitting in the middle and her head is laying on one of the girl's shoulder's.
Another school girl gets on the train and sits in the same carriage, she notices the aussie girl but thinks she's just sleeping, a train inspector appears and asks to see to the school girl's ticket, she produces ticket, inspector says ticket isnt valid ,you have to come with me, the girl argues with him and the inspector eventually gets her to agree to come with him to the security car.
He tells the girl, your lucky you came with me because those two girls back there snapped the other girl's neck for 5 bucks and if you hadn't come with me now they would have done the same thing to you. And there are police waiting at the next stop to pick them up.
For 5 bucks a human life has gone, what is this world coming too?

As far as I'm aware it's an urban myth being circulated to drum up anti Maori sentiment in Sydney at the moment.

 Is it?
I shall ask the person on Monday who told me about it and when I get some time see if I can find a link from the papers here.

Oh god. I didn't even hear about that, how sad. =\
Sydney can be a pretty bad place (some parts of it) and I hate going there myself. But for something like that to happen it can be suprising to some but I am not shocked, because things like that do happen there and they do happen in a lot of other places, but Sydney it's not something you don't think would happen because it does more often than people think.
Tongans are VERY violent people, I've known a few myself and they aren't nice people. My friends sister hangs around them and they like to act tough but you mess with them this is something they'll do.

its an urban myth.. it isnt real.. to double check it i asked my sister who happens to work for one of the newspapers here in Sydney. plus the fact that there is a few holes in the story. if the trained stopped for the other girl to get on why wasnt the cops at that station ? they would have actually stopped the train at the next station and held them there till the cops showed up not let it continue on.
and sydney is not all that bad and neither are maoris.
as for the value of life.. no one can put any value on a life.. its priceless

Just wow. That's terrible.
It's incidents like this (amongst other things) that really makes you wonder what the world be like in 100 years time. Better? Worse? Who knows, but I just hope it improves.
