There seems to be some confusion regarding the age of consent in the United States, so here some links that clarify these laws (which vary by state):

The age of sexual consent is 16 for adults who are under 30 years of age,
or if the adult that is 30 years of age or older is married to the minor.

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 16

The age of sexual consent is 16 for adults who are under 24 years of age,
or if the adult that is 24 years of age or older is married to the minor.

GEORGIA 16

HAWAII 16

It is illegal for minors age 14 and 15 to have consensual *** with adults
at least five years older, this law does not apply to married couples.

IDAHO 18

ILLINOIS 17

Illinois law makes 18 the minimum age at which teachers and their students
may legally have ***. Age 17 does not apply to teachers or any other school
employee in a "position of authority" over the minor.

INDIANA 16

It is illegal for adults in a supervisory position of a minor aged 16 and 17
to have consensual *** with them. The crime called "felony child seduction"
, a Class D felony, carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a
$10,000 fine.

KANSAS 16

Kansas law prohibits various sexual scenarios, and has a special category
for *** with a person between 14 and 16. Adults breaching this criminal
sodomy section face harsh penalties, but Kansas lawmakers carved out some
breathing space for youthful miscreants, provided they are 18 or under, and
within four years of age of their consensual partner. Called the "Romeo and
Juliet" law, the provision limits the penalty for teen *** to 15 months in
jail, and does not require the perpetrator to register as a *** offender.
But the "Romeo and Juliet" law only applies to heterosexual teen-agers. Also
it is a felony for school employees to have consensual sexual contact with
students ages 16 or 17, even if it is only french-kissing.

Louisiana law allows prosecutors to seek the death penalty for people
convicted of having consensual *** with a person under 12 years old. The
Louisiana state Supreme Court declared the law constitutional in 1999
because of a 1977 U.S. Supreme Court ruling addressing the **** of an adult,
not a child. The U.S. Supreme Court in 1977 banned the death penalty for
raping adult women, but the justices did not say whether it could be applied
to child rapists. The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear the 1999 Louisiana
case, allowing the death penalty law to stand.

until the minor turns 18, he or she can only have sexual relations with
someone 2 years older.

A person 18 and older having *** with a 13- or 14-year-old faces a felony
charge, which carries a punishment of two to 10 years in prison and up to a

WASHINGTON 16

It is illegal for any school employee to have consensual sexual contact
with a student between age 16 and high school graduation, so age 16 does not
apply to school employees.

WEST VIRGINIA 16

The age of sexual consent for homosexuals may be higher at 18?

WISCONSIN 18

Slight correction for WISCONSIN-

If you are 16-18 you can have sexual contact however it can not involve penetration of any kind. If you are 18+ and have sexual contact with someone who is at least 16, you are guilty of a misdemeanor. If it is under 16, its a Felony of some sort.

Just something that was inaccurate. The reason why I know this off the top of my head is because I am a ***-ed,HIV-Prevention and AODA Prevention educator.

I don't see where any "correction" was made. The list says the Age of Consent for Wisconsin is 18, and you've just confirmed that.

I'd call it a "clarification" perhaps, but not a correction.

PS - The Age of Consent Laws automatically interpret "consensual sex" as involving penetration.

Interesting, but alas the world does not revolve around American Law.

Many EU Countries have an equal law of consent for both gay and straight, or are required to have one by 2009.

That Law stands at 16 yrs for all.

I realize that world law is not the same as American Law, hence the reason the title of this thread is, "Age of Consent Laws (USA)."

I made this thread because I noticed a lot of misinformed Americans in the "Pederasty" thread.

But we need to remember the age in California, USA is 18 which is where Chat-Avenue is based.Which is why the room went from 16 to 18 years old.

That's nice, but it has nothing to do with this thread.

As I previously stated, this thread is merely to clarify some of the misinformation I saw in the "Pederasty" thread regarding the Age of Consent laws in the USA.

But it does have a little to do with the room since so many there are to young to actually be legal for the room or s.ex in California (and the room)

I'm not aware of any laws which restrict chatroom access to certain ages other than those chatrooms which contain pornographic images. And the room's "webcam" links don't count either, otherwise they'd be too young to post in Forums too.

And most states and countries do have the same Age of Consent (16); there aren't many states/countries that restrict it to 17, and even less that restrict it to 18.
