Local communities
In the area you live, do you find there are many places where gay people can socialise together? If so do you use these facilities or do you prefer to socialise with straight people?
In my local community there is 1 pub/nightclub for Gay, Lesbian and BiSexual people, that I know of, and many of my gay friends seem to prefer to socialise with straight people.
Just thought this might be an interesting thread.

The gay and straight communities here seem to get on well with each other too. Some of the straight people prefer to socialise with the gay people in the gay pub.
I'm interested to know what it's like in other parts of the country/world.

theres a club in the city that has gay nights, but thats the only one in hartford i heard about.
my campus has some gay clubs and stuff but its all 'hook ups' and crap like that.
as far as my local community the only clubs and things that are here have to do about 'animal husbandry' and 'organic produce farming' but none of my neighbors seem to be harboring any homophobic feelings so its pretty comfortable.

There are tons of gay ppl here in the Falls heck half of them are tourists because they come here to get married. But using gaydar I know who they are but generally they are hidden because we have nothing.

I live in the "Bible belt" (southern USA, for those that don't know) So, gay activities and gay establishments are pretty much frowned upon around here. We do have a Gay club in the nearest largest city to me (about 30 miles away) and several others in Atlanta, which is about 90 miles away. I'm sure both those towns offer alot more than just gay clubs, but as far as around here, there is nothing.
Personally, I prefer the gay clubs over straight clubs any day of the week. Everyones NOT looking for "hook ups", there isn't the drama, nor the fighting that goes on at straight clubs. I have alot more fun at the gay clubs with my gay and straight friends, alike.

Where
Where I live there is 1 club dedicated to gays, but is rarely patronized accept during the holiday parties.
For me though, I tend to hang at either one of the 3 underground clubs that allows everyone freedom. I live in the Ozarks and being gay is something that is simply not accepted, yet!
I like the rest attend the openly gay bar when the holidays come about, but there is added security and rarely any danger of attack.

There are many in Glasgow, but it's not in a nice area (because Glasgow is just junkieville) so hardly anyone goes.
And i'm in Cambuslang, and there's none.

We have 2 Gay Districts in Toronto. One's fairly large (probably larger than some towns) and has a ton of shops, cafes, clubs, that cater to the older (not meaning age) gay community, and the other's still growing and caters more to the younger gay community. (mostly teens, but not limited to.)
Anyone travelling along Yonge street can't help but venture off into the Gay district. There's is no "they're gay/we're straight so stay away". There's just so many Gay/Straight clubs downtown that everyone goes to where ever their heart desires.
Besides... Homophobic days died out a long time ago in Toronto.
We don't segregate, we participate. (Okay, maybe not, but we DO let everyone do what their heart desires.)
