Sat, Sun and Tues it was another assistant manager. The things he wanted done were things that he didn't tell either of us to do. However, on the Monday that I ran shift, I did the things. (basically tallying up St. Jude contributions and making boxes ) So, anyway, he said that he was being critical of my shifts and mad things didn't get done. I told him that on my shift, they were done, and that if he wanted to be critical he could wait until 3:00 when I clock in. Am I wrong? Or is he? What's your thoughts?

I consider that very inappropriate to call you on "your" time. I also wonder why the asst. that was on the other shift was not talked to about her performance. Also, I would ask him to show you what was NOT done on your shift and when he points to the other shift, ask him how you are supposed to control other people's actions and why is he taking out his anger on you??? It sounds like he is having a bad day and looking for a "whipping boy" or in your case "girl"

He's always like this. Blames me for what the others don't do. Yet, he spends most of his shift on his cell phone. Not to mention that when I start my shifts, nothing is ever done. I have to prep all the food, make all the boxes, do all the paperwork etc. He ran shift every day last week except Monday. I run shifts on Monday... and Monday was the only day that inventory was done.. supposed to be done every day. He's the reason I gave my notice a while back, but stayed when they offered me more money. I'm not looking forward to going into work today. I have been keeping quiet about the way he treats us all, but if it's as bad as I expect, I'll probably walk out today.

you're right in all aspects ..In California if your employer calls you at home for any business related purpose, they are required to pay for the time that work was discussed ..so telling him that you'll deal with him while you're on the clock was absolutely correct. it sounds if there was some kind of lack of communication between shifts. As the boss it is his responsibility to make sure that all employees have the same work related information On ALL shifts .so if there was a lapse ..its his failure. And to hold you responsible for things that occurred when you were not running the show is BS.Sounds to me like they are just looking for a scapegoat to cover there own asses.
For the record .. if my boss called me at home with the purpose of chewing me out,i would tell him to go consummate himself you're in the right here kiddo

Okies.. I would probably start taking notes of everything he does... and if you have a camera phone...get a couple pics of him on the phone....all day long.... then, don't go to his boss, but go all the way up in the ladder with your complaints , pictures, and tell them about all the phone calls off work and him not doing anything while he is at work. The person that gave you more money would be whom I would talk to about the instore situation. Explain to them that you do his work while he collects the pay. I would have his @ss fired.... sorry, but that is very wrong on all levels of proffesional businessmanship.

I've already been told that they would fire everyone I work with in order to keep me there Red, thing is.. I don't want the added responsibility. I'm working enough hours now. He's a good guy, just let's his temper get the best of him and yells without thinking first.. but, it is affecting my work, and others. We don't like being there when he is.. Mondays when I run shift, we have so much fun lmao.. the work gets done, yet we spend the shift singing and dancing.. and you should see the tips we get when the customers see us enjoying our jobs
