Question for Vegetarians

About 1/3 of the vegetarians I've come across have continued to eat seafood after becoming vegetarian.
About two of them have said they're vegetarian except when it comes to seafood, but the rest have said "fish isn't meat."

What in the world is the reasoning behind that?!

I understand having an exception to a diet like being a vegetarian, but since when isn't fish a meat?

some people simply dont like the texture of meats like beef and pork, but fish is different, they arent vegitarians, but its an easier term to use to explain things.

for myself, when i went thro a phase where i didnt eat meat it was because of the cruel and inhumane way the animals were being slaughtered. and i still ate fish and shellfish, because they arent killed the same way a mammal would be.

I don't know my mom is a vegetarain...and she says if it has eyes, lips, or fins...she's not gonna eat it . She considers fish an animal.

I did the same thing.
I'm not a huge beef/pork fan in the first place, but I never felt as bad about fish.
Especially since we've never bought fish (excluding shellfish), just caught it ourselves and whacked it over the head with a bat so it wouldn't suffer from air loss.

I eat a lot of oraganic meats too.

I stick to poultry and seafood unless it's a special occasion.
Seafood's incredibly good for you (unless it's fried and dipped in butter or with mayo), and for me, easier to get.
Pay $20 for bait, stick it in crab traps, and pull up 20 crabs- super cheap.

we don't get lobster as much because we can't get it ourselves

i'm actually starting to get sick of crab
same thing happens with albacore and salmon when the season's right
