Heroes

HEROES

In all of recorded history, there are many Gay, Lesbian or Bisexual heroes, aswell as the straight ones.

At one time or another, many of us have found comfort and support, by finding out about a gay, lesbian or bisexual heroes social contributions, as have straight peeps.

For me, over the last year, It was about finding out how gays used to suffer so much in Britain untill the the change in the law, in the sixties and how that change was brought about.

Today we enjoy freedom, but that freedom was purchased at great cost, on our behalf by just a few individuals that stood up and fought for their civil rights, and ours.

I mention the above, because that subject will be the core of some of my future posts - CIVIL RIGHTS FOR ALL.

But all said..

Gay or Straight

Did you have a Hero, or a show of kindness that has spurred you on in life, and if so how has that jesture changed your life, and affected your view of the world, and those that surround you.

A rather deep subject I know, reach very deep into your hearts and post please, maybe you will become my hero! You may have to move over in the bed of my dreams Voicey!

Aung San Suu Kyi (the leader of the Democratic movement in Burma) is my hero(ine). I met her once when I was working in Burma and she had been temporarily released from house arrest. Despite having been treated abominably, and despite the scale of her task, she remains calm, focussed and dedicated to the peaceful attainment of freedom and democracy (not one and the same thing) for her people. She's simply the most remarkable person I've ever encountered.

She has the hearts of the whole world pulsing within her, I hope there is a god, if only so he/she can keep her safe, and closet her in his/her arms.

Hmm given the board one of my heroes was Andrew Cunanan. Versace really was a horrific fashion designer.

On topic: I don't know anyone.

Off topic: For someone who hates GLB people being separated from the Straight people, this thread surely does contradict it.

I would have settled for a "Who's YOUR hero?" thread.

Can't say there's been one particular 'jesture' but I do know quite a few jesters if that's what you mean Aqueer. You being one of them.

Anyhow I have two heroes - my mother and father who brought me into this world at a time when mixed relationships were greatly frowned upon. They took more shiate than any gay cavallero ever did.

So it's only recently inter-racial relationships have been acceptable?! I didn't know that.
