Vegetarians: The Why and what
I have just converted to being a vegetarian. well im in my 3rd month now and i have to say it feels very good.
What were the reasons you chose to become a vegetarian for those of you who are? And what kind of vegetarian are you
Well mine is largely because of the animal cruelty but also believe that we are converting too much land in our planet to grow fodder instead of conserving the environment. Healthy eating was also a major factor!
I dont eat any meat, chicken, fish and all animal products except 2 eggs every week for the protein and milk when i feel muscle weakness.

if you dont eat milk and egg products either then youre not a vegitarian, youre vegan.
i stopped eating meat a while back for the same reason.
but i found a solution. and organic meat farm in my own town. my kids drink organic, hormone free milk and it beef with no fillers and anti-biotics. its not that much in price, a little bit more expensive but you cant say there isnt a difference. eating local food is very important.
and youre only a few weeks in, so youll hit the wall soon enough. youre weight will either balloon from eating too many carbs or start to shut down and go into the beginning stages of starvation because you arent getting the vitamins and minerals you need.
so go to your doctor, theyre helpful. theres a lot of soy protien shakes that actually really really good. i recomend bolthouse farms drinks. i still drink them, just cause i like it.
and peanut butter, eat peanut butter everyday if you can. it can easily replace meat in your diet.

Being a vegetarian doesn't necessarily mean you're more healthy.
True, you won't get all the processed meats or f'ed up stuff, but you don't have to be a vegetarian to avoid bad animal products.
Buying local and organic products isn't just healthier but it supports local businesses and since they're not mass producing, animal cruelty isn't such a big thing.
There's nothing wrong with being a vegetarian, but there are other alternatives.

I kind of thought that because sometimes i take milk and eggs, that did not qualify me as a vegan.
Thank you for your advice especially about the organics and peanut butter. I will implement that.
I eat all kinds or grains, fruits and vegetables though and i have learned how to mix them such that i get the correct amount of nutrients. I will speak to my doctor about the other altenatives.
Thank you.

Thanks for your advice.
I quite like the way i feel since i stopped eating meat. I used to eat alot of red meat and chicken quite a few times a week until i went to the Earth Notes film festival where they showed all kinds of films on fish farming, agricultural practices, animal cruelty and GMO's. Being in the environmental management field, I just decided i was not going to be part of that cycle.
Unfortunately, where i live, organic food is very expensive and there is kind of a monopoly as to who produces what. So my best bet was to stop eating the stuff all together.

youre gonna gain a lot of weight if all youre eating is grains and fruits.
you need protien like eggs, beans and nuts.
and soy to supplement the dairy you lack.
you should also ask your doctor about a multivitamin.

Veganism is a sub-branch of vegetarianism.

You'd be an ovo-lacto vegetarian.

If you're referring to soy milk... That tastes like ass.
I'd say if you drank milk and eat eggs on a near daily basis you wouldn't really be contributing to animal cruelty. Drinking cow milk is just being resourceful. It's good that you're talking to your doctor, a lot of new vegetarians don't really know what they're doing and can end up seriously hurting themselves.

a typical vegitarian eats milk and egg products because they feel it does not harm the animal to produce it. just the act of eating a dead animal sickens them enough not to eat the meat.
so theres no need to call it that.

soy milk is amazingly good.
and you should direct your answer to the thread poster and not me, im no longer a vegetarian.
and animals kept in captivity to produce milk and eggs are usually in cruel situations. not happy little farms with acres of pasture.
i suggest you do some research.

Yeah... ovo-lacto vegetarians eat eggs and drink milk usually for the reasons you described.
