The Other Side of Freedom
Freedom, it is such a relative word and there is no such thing...really. Absolute freedom does not exist. We are all bound by rules...in whatever we do and rightfully so. Without rules/laws/codes we would have chaos for sure.
Still, we talk about freedom, even in it's relative way (in this case freedom of speech) because we all long to speak our minds without hinderance. Unfortunately, we as human beings are very prone and susceptable to our feelings. Like most human beings our emotions and moods, change from time to time depending in large part on what is going on around us. More times than we care to admit, we fall victim to our own gut reactions as opposed to a normally well thought proactions. I mean...who has not regretted doing or saying something in haste?
Rules are designed to help us remember to think and therefore protect the amount of freedom we do have, as well as those of others. Freedom without rules...is an open invitation to disaster.
I was banned from chat this morning after calling a crazed scroller that was being very lewd to CMs Summy and Stroo. There is no need to mention he was saying, but I called the jerk a cretin...and poof I was banned. No warning...no nothing. I am not sure if it was the cretin or one of the moderators that got me...and I am trying to find out now through email to Cat, who incidently, was also present at the time.
I have been banned before, but it has always been from one of these hacking cretins who think their freedom is somehow beyond established rules and that; just because they can get away with it. It just goes to show...and even more so, why we must have rules. Yes, why we need to learn to cooperate, because unfortunately, bridleless freedom ("absolute freedom")...is an enemy and not a friend.
I'd like to propose and I am not sure if it is even possible...as it would take some restructuring of the Digichat program, but I suggest an additional password system in which the password must be used to gain access to Chat...much like here in the Forums. Then too, giving the administrator power to revoke a password...to keep a violator out as long as necessary. It would curtail...much of what is going on today...where the Cretins know they can get away with their mudslinging...especially at and in the face of the CMs.
Yes folks..freedom is a good thing, but like most issues...there is another side.
Thanks for listening,
Steve

Clarification
Ah...my bad. I didn't think it was particurly necessary to identify which nic I was using...as I explained I have sent the details to Cat via email, which she is either ignoring or too busy with other things at present.
Anyway...I was in there as Barbarian...though I usually use *Savage and formerly ~Sir Fuxy~.
Sorry for the confusion,
Steve

I logged in to forums, received your pm and replied immediately. Try looking in your inbox.
And if I recall you actually posted that it's simple to mask an IP and you could give info on how to do so.

One has to pay to be able to do it...there are a couple of ways that I knos of. However, I woule never share with anyone on what it takes...let alone do it myself. I am completely against it...as it only disrupts the legitimate chat and makes one look like a nit wit.
I notice there are at least a couple of those...here in the forum as well. Free Prozac and keep 'em all in chains.
