Does a person need to be in love to be happy?

The other day someone told me that the only real way to be happy is to be in love...I was just looking for everyones elses opinion on the subject

I personally believe that you make your own happiness and that another person really doesn't have much to do with it. If a person judges anothers happiness by looking at their romantic situation I believe that they are trying to judge a book by its cover ...but hey I've been wrong before-what do you all think?

You have to be happy as a person before someone can happy with you. Or two really miserable fools maybe perfect for one another lol.

you don't need to be in love to be happy ..but you do have to have a passion or a goal that moves you . You do need to have some kind of impetus that moves you forward and keep's your dream alive...

Yea agreed with what was said before. i.e. true happiness shud come from within..accepting and loving yourself ..and if you’re not completely happy then u try to work on it and with each goal u attain u feel an escalated sense of accomplishment and contentment.


When in love people tend to lose themselves in their partner and forget about who they were, they forget they were an individual b4 they became a half of a couple, an individual capable of happiness without their partner.


Being in a wonderful relationship is a factor of your happiness at the time, but its essential that u not become absorbed totally, not give yourself or lose yourself absolutely and completely to your partner...always save a piece of yourself for yourself.


I guess that person you had the discussion with will only learn that lesson from experience.

No you dont have to be in love to be happy,,, we find our own happiness and different people have their own ways to be happy... If you have tons of happiness already, then fall in love then it is complete,,,

Perhaps then you should alter your siggy because by your own words and admission you state that ... "sometimes dreams do come true" and then you pose another mans name instead of your husbands at the bottom. And what are dreams if not leads to where our happiness is at? A picture says a thousand words Dawn. Doesnt mean youre not happy without it. Just means youre obviously a whole lot happier with it. Or are you just as happy without your beloved Kevin, who again according to you doesnt have anything to do with your happiness? If that is the case, why bother being with them?

Edit - I think you will also find that person said you had to love yourself first too.

I know everything how do you know her hub didn't change his name to Kevin or that maybe she remarried someone named Kevin.. or better yet, maybe she's married to my husband Kevin Seriously, Cherrie, you think you know everything about everyone. I thought the whole idea of happiness was for your dreams to come to fruition. Isnt that what life is about. Realizing what makes you happy, creating a dream for it and then letting that dream come to you.

I know what she told me herself. That Kevin was one of two e-affairs. Kevin came back to her after she left him for someone else. I doubt very highly that its her husbands name. Then wouldnt she have to be in a happy relationship with him? If she was, what need would she have for any e-affairs that shes mentioned.

OH, and NO you don't have to be in love to be happy, but being in love certainly adds to any happiness .

Me, personally, when I'm in love.... happiness follows. I hate being alone.

Funny I read that as you arent happy being alone, so you find love to be happy.
