Prayers for Bobby
Has anyone else read "Prayers for Bobby" by Leroy Aarons? I was going through my bookshelf and found it - I had forgotten about it for almost a year! I just read it basically cover to cover - couldn't put it down! Wow, what a powerful and moving story! Terrible tragedy, but sometimes good things can pull through bad situations...

basically a mother rejects her son when he reveals that he is gay and he ends up committing suicide...leading her to change her views and become a gay rights activist

It's funny how you're all claiming it to be a 'gay sob story.'
If that happened in real life, and an article was posted about it, you'd all be screaming ' HOMOPHOBE.'

Yeah, the story isn't a "sob story." it's actually a really good book, and one which has probably helped a lot of people to alter the way they think and view the LGBT community! I wouldn't be so quick to condemn such a powerful message like the one in the book.. if you're not into reading then at least watch the trailer of the Lifetime movie - I'll admit it's a little "over the top," but I still think it's a good message for people to see.. you can see the trailer on you tube if you search for Prayers for Bobby Movie or Lifetime Prayers for Bobby..

Oh my god you're right... the worst. I think the movie for Prayers for Bobby might be up there, too - Sigourney Weaver is playing the mom. I saw an interview with her on a NY tv channel today... it's gonna be good, but bad at the same time. I think the movie actually comes on tomorrow around 9 on lifetime..
