Burned dog found dumped in field

An investigation is under way after a badly burned dog's body was found dumped in the Scottish Borders.
The discovery was made by a member of the public behind a row of houses at Edinburgh Road in Peebles on Saturday.
The Scottish SPCA has urged people to come forward with information following the discovery of the adult female Staffordshire bull terrier cross.
Spokesman Bill Little described it as a "brutal and sickening attack" which would have caused "tremendous" pain.
The dog was found in the field behind the houses in Peebles at the weekend.
Mr Little, a Scottish SPCA senior inspector, said she had been the victim of a particularly nasty attack.
Post-mortem examination
He said: "Not only does she have severe and widespread burn marks on her head, body, legs and paws but she also has an injury to her face where she may have been kicked, punched or struck with an instrument.
"We cannot say at this stage whether she was burned before or after she died.
"However, we are currently having a post-mortem conducted on the body which will confirm this for us. "
The dog was dumped in an area that is popular with dog walkers.
The spot where she was found was in full view of houses that back on to the field, which is surrounded by trees.
Mr Little added: "We are very keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who recognises the dog.
"There were no scorch marks on the ground where the dog lay so we believe that she was burned elsewhere and then someone carried the body here to dump it."
