Default gay penguins

im going to put this here because i would like some feed back from people.

BERLIN (AP) - A German zoo says a pair of gay male penguins are raising a chick from an egg abandoned by its parents.

Bremerhaven zoo veterinarian Joachim Schoene says the egg was placed in the male penguins' nest after its parents rejected it in late April. The males incubated it for some 30 days before it hatched and have continued to care for it. The chick's gender is not yet known.

Schoene said the male birds, named Z and Vielpunkt, are one of three same-s.ex pairs among the zoo's 20 Humboldt penguins that have attempted to mate.

Homosexual behavior has been documented in many animal species.

The zoo said in a statement on its Web site Thursday that "s.ex and coupling in our world don't always have something to do with reproduction."

so my question is do you think they were born gay or grew up and realized they were gay? the man in the article basically came right out and stated that it has nothing to do with reproducing.

How soon before the religious right declares war on gay penguins?

Marriage now has another threat!

I want to know why the egg was abandoned in the first place.

Secondly, that egg coulda gone to a heterosexual penguin couple right? I mean jesus the egg is better off dead than with those gay penguins!

Let one of the straight penguins take it, I'm sure they were lined up for it.

Don't male penguins incubate eggs until they hatch anyway?

Watch Happy Feet.

those are emperor penguins. these arent. some species of penguins the eggs stay with the mother and the males do the hunting. the only reason the baby is passed is because so the mother can go and get food.

This exact same thing happened at a zoo in New York City a few years ago.

There have been stories of gay penguins and horses for a very long time.

I Told You Animals Can Be Gay, Too...

Nature vs. Nurture: Gay Animals
By Ramon Johnson, About.com

"Homosexuality has been observed for more than 1,500 animal species, and is well documented for 500 of them."

Soeli's exhibition about homosexuality and animals shows that homosexuality can't be "unnatural." A statement in the exhibition says, "We may have opinions on a lot of things, but one thing is clear -- homosexuality is found throughout the animal kingdom, it is not against nature."
