The Spelling/Grammar/Language Thread.
X________X
So far I've seen TWO threads where people get way off topic but correcting spelling including my thread in College.
Well here you go! This actually isn't a bad idea. If you have an english paper or essay where you need to be check copy/paste it here.
Also, you can just have a general conversation and people can look for erros there. People will learn from their mistakes and get smarter.
Please no slang...it will be corrected. Another thing, please don't get offended.
I think I might like this thread. <__<
Now I think I even made some mistakes in this thread. Someone help me correct it so I'll be smart? x_x
P.S. NO using Microsoft Word or the thread's spell check. That's sorta cheating.
*sort of
It's hard not to slang. x___X

Family Related Problems
The study of family problems is important because most of us spend much of our lives in a family unit. The functionalist perspective argues that a form of family exists in all societies because it performs basic functions that must be present for out survival. They identify six major contributions that family makes towards our survival: regulation of sexual behavior and reproduction, Socializations and educations, status conferral, economic activity, protection, affection and companionship.
The conflict perspective argues that family serves interest to dominant groups in society. It enables makes to practice dominant roles. An example of this can be seen in the form of spousal abuse. They also argue that the family also contributes to social and economic inquiry in the form of inheritance.
The interactionist perspective defines family based on how a society views it. The type of family that becomes custom is the type that society will view as normal. Society defines what behavior is acceptable and may change their views as society grows.
The divorce rate has raised significantly form the 1940’s through the 1980’s and has since declined. There is a greater risk of getting divorced if you have social differences between a couple, low socioeconomic standing, marriage starts at a young age, and whirlwind romances occur. When a divorce occurs, women tend to be worse off because of the division of only tangible property between the couple. Less tangible property, such as professional license, tends to belong to the man granting him greater access to income in the future.
Global trends that can be found in the United States can be found in other nations. Births to unmarried women have increased in other nations, as long with households headed by women, family size has decreasing around the world suggests that family is becoming a smaller kinship.
Violence in the family can be separated into three major types; intimate partner, child abuse, and abuse of the elderly. Intimate partner violence happens very often. One reason this may be is because the use of violence to settle disputes is widely accepted in the United States, especially among males. Men traditionally are dominant in relationships increasing the tendency of spousal abuse. Child abuse can be very controversial insure especially when it leads to parricide. When parricide occurs, it is difficult to determine who is at fault, and how severely the child should be punished. As seen in the video, child abuse can have a great negative effect on the child’s ability to reason.

heres a history paper i just finished....
At the start of what would later be called World War I, there was a large demand for able men who were willing to fight for the splendor and reputation of their mother country. Many hundreds of thousands of men were recruited to fight the war that was raging in France. Countries such as Canada and Australia were forced to join this European conflict because they were all originally colonies of the British Empire. Through decisive and very effective propaganda, many young Canadians were convinced to travel overseas to help rid France of the invading Huns. These recruits were promised glory, honour and fame when they returned home. The new soldiers were guaranteed a short war where there would be very little fighting and were promised that they would be home for Christmas. But what the soldiers undertook was, in reality, quite opposite from the recruiters’ claims. The living conditions on the western front served to dispel the glory of imperialism and influenced the common soldier to reconsider his own identity. The constant threat of death continuously invaded a soldier’s life. Soldiers also began to mentally and physical break down because of the stresses that pushed their bodies to their limits. Soldiers would also have a hard time in the trenches because of the unhealthy environments that they had to endure.
The constant threat of death in the trenches dispelled the glory and imperialism presented to the soldiers by their recruiting officers. Even when not being attacked, many soldiers would die from random enemy artillery shells. As historian Michael Duffy states, “…constant shellfire directed by the enemy brought random death…” The fear of being hit by a random shell would put stress on soldiers who were already over-stressed. New recruits who were sent to the front lines often peered over the parapet to look into No Man’s Land. These people would often be met by a bullet from an enemy sniper. As Duffy points out, “Many men died on their first day in the trenches as a consequence of a precisely aimed sniper's bullet.” In some parts of the trench, soldiers would have to duck for fear of their heads being spotted over the parapets by snipers. The threat of an enemy attack was constantly looming, quite literally, over the soldiers’ heads. Troops would be assigned guard duties, and additionally, soldiers would also participate in a “stand to” which was timed before dawn. Duffy claims that, “An hour before dawn everyone was roused from slumber by the company orderly officer and sergeant and ordered to climb up on the fire step to guard against a dawn raid by the enemy, bayonets fixed.” The early morning ‘stand to’ and the guard duty shifts meant that soldiers had very little time for sleep which contributed to their anxiety of being killed. As Duffy states, “Sleep was snatched wherever possible - although it was seldom that men were allowed sufficient time to grab more than a few minutes rest…because of lack of sleep, the men were fatigued beyond comprehension… there was a real risk of men falling asleep on duty.” Enemy shells, snipers, and lack of sleep during enemy raids all contributed to the threat of being killed in the trenches which dispelled the image of a glorious war to the soldiers.
The experiences and requirements of a soldier on the battle fields of the western front helped dissolve the idea of the grandeur of war. The sheer amount of equipment that the soldiers had to carry into battle automatically lessened their chances of survival, and dramatically put pressure on them to push their bodies past their limits. As one writer points out, “…he carried a total of 30 kilograms (66 lbs) of equipment… The weight of the equipment made it difficult to move very fast across No Man's Land.” Troops would often spend a very long period of time at the front lines and only be able to rest for a short duration of time. This exhaustion and stress would sometimes result in ‘shell shock’ which could make the soldier completely unable to serve. One writer comments that, “Early symptoms [of Shell Shock] included tiredness, irritability, giddiness, lack of concentration and headaches. Eventually the men suffered mental breakdowns making it impossible for them to remain in the front-line.” The chores assigned to troops living on the western front were usually not very difficult, but the task became more complicated when they had to walk through water logged trenches under constant artillery fire. Such tasks could be refilling sandbags, cleaning rifles, or repairing duckboards. But the worst job was filling in, creating or maintaining latrines (washrooms that were simply holes in the ground), not only was it a repulsive job, but it was also very dangerous. Duffy affirms that, “Not only was the smell deemed offensive but it was also considered a dangerous place to linger. Enemy forces would often detect increased activity in such sites and subject the area to artillery bombardment.” Because of the amount of equipment required for a soldier to carry and maneuver, the amount of time spent at the front lines, and the dangerous chores that needed to be accomplished, a soldier’s view of the war was dramatically dispelled from the glory and patriotism that was promised him.
The image of the glory and imperialism of war was greatly dispelled by the health conditions in the trenches on the western front. Rats appeared in millions in the trenches because of the large number of decomposing corpses. The rats brought fear to the soldiers, whose hate for them even surpassed their hate for the enemy. As Victor Silvester wrote in his diary, “That night I had been asleep in a dugout about three hours when I woke up feeling something biting my hip. I put my hand down and my fingers closed on a big rat. It had nibbled through my haversack, my tunic and pleated kilt to get at my flesh. With a cry of horror I threw it from me.” The rats would carry deadly diseases as well as eat internal organs of fallen soldiers. Many soldiers would often try to kill the rats by any means possible. As Duffy explains, “Men, exasperated and afraid of these rats (which would even scamper across their faces in the dark), would attempt to rid the trenches of them by various methods: gunfire, with the bayonet, and even by clubbing them to death.” Many soldiers who served in the trenches suffered from trench foot. This infection was caused by leaving the feet in cold and wet conditions for an extended period of time. The infection was dangerous, and as one author goes on to explain, “If untreated, trench foot could turn gangrenous and result in amputation.” Dysentery was another serious heath concern in the trenches. Dysentery is a very hazardous disease which involves inflammation of the lining of the large intestines. The bacteria enters the body through contaminated food or water (which was ever-present in the front lines) and usually causes stomach pains and possibly diarrhea. As one historian illustrates, “The diarrhea causes people suffering from dysentery to lose important salts and fluids from the body. This can be fatal if the body dehydrates.” The repulsive rat dilemma and the two deadly diseases (trench foot and dysentery) were the reasons why the supposed glory of war was greatly contradicted by the health problems that occurred on the western front.
The living conditions on the western front greatly dispelled the glory and imperialism of the war for the soldiers fighting in the trenches. The constant threat of death, the terrible health environments and the general requirement of a soldier all helped to destroy the image of glory and honour in World War I. Most European governments pursuaded their young men to join the military only to lead them to a living hell. Though only 12% of British and Common Wealth soldiers died in the front lines on the western front , the struggles and hardships that the soldiers delt with would always be remembered as one of the most unsanitary and unhuman conditions of any war.
I didnt add in the footnotes.....thanks to anyone who corrects this...

Huh? why did you make "practice" incorrect? i thought this was a spelling correction thread (which is a dumb idea btw bc of the advent of spell check; what would be more helpful is a grammar thread since grammar checking has yet to be perfected and is a much more prevalent problem)
edit: lol well turns out practice can be spelled "practise" but it's a british spelling that would be counted as a misspelling by microsoft word if you're using the american english dictionary, either way, "practice" shouldn't have been identified as an error

I have yet to see a grammar mistake, actually I do, I didn't see the post made by Amy.
And- that wouldn't work either, there is a grammar check.
You were checking on Microsoft Word?
