A girl like me
Recently I have watched a movie on Life Time called "A girl like me" The whole movie is kind of like a biography about a male named. Edward Aruijo. He named himself Gwen. Edward was a male in the physical, but believe he was a female. He was murmured and beaten brutally for the fact that he was a transgender. Three teenage males killed him because they found out that he was actually a male. I believe that they should have been charged with hate crimes because they did it just for that reason.
What do you think about that?

This doesn't belong in the World Events, Politics and News Forum. If anywhere, it should go into the Debate Forum.

I agree. They should have been charged. Although I didn't get to see the movie I saw some previews and all that and that's just wrong I'm sorry. Was it his fault he was born in a different body ?! No so why bash him so bad to his death ? That's wrong. Anywaayz. Just to tell people it's going to be again on the 25th.

For those of you that say it was "born in the wrong body" then surely you can agree with me in saying that it was a genetic mistake.

actually if you think about it does belong because it is news. This didn't just happen to Edward or Gwen it happens to alot of gays/lesbian. It was wrong and even if she did lie she didn't deserve what she got.

Although it is a little old.. it does belong in this forum...
the question as to whether or not the defendants should have been convicted of hate crime or not is probably a topic for the debate forum..

In the most recent trial, two of the defendants were convicted of second-degree murder, but the jury concluded that no hate crime was committed. The circumstances of the case have caused it to become a rallying point for the LGBT community, and a number of underreported and controversial aspects about the case and about Gwen's murder remain points of contention.

Uh. I kind of include this into my homosexuality lectures. But I'll try to keep it short I guess.
People... Aren't born in the wrong body. That's absurd. Obviously, it's a mental disorder that they obtain that ideology and think they were meant for a body of the opposite sex. But, that doesn't necessarily give you the right to make fun of them either, since it'd be like making fun of me for having Asperger's syndrome or like making fun of a kid with down's syndrome just because of that. I think you'd learn to accept it like you do with most disorders, but it'd be a hard lifestyle and you have to admit it's a disorder and not natural to be that way. And from there look for help. Same with gays. But I won't go into that here.
Edit: Oh yeah. I forgot to say something. Remember, he chose to act on how he thought, thus exposing himself to the world. If he didn't, I think he'd still be alive today.

I watched it. It was rather sad. I don't see why those kids weren't charged with more. I mean they did torture her for 5 hours, I believe. They then strangled her and buried her. What kind of person does that? It's funny how people bash at someone because they aren't the same. It seems to me that people fail to realize we're all humans no matter what.

Depends on what you think constitutes as being a human.
