Default Soundcard Issues

Okie...anybody shed any light?

Creative Soundblaster 4.1 PCI

Sound output intermittently goes...metallic and fuzzy is the best way to describe it. Then back to normal, then fuzzy again. It's a bit like listening to a radio if it's a weak signal and not tuned in properly.

Tends to happen in more intensive situations such as gameplay, though video and mp3 do it too, just not as often. But I've played the same games before on this machine without a problem. Been getting gradually worse for about a month.

Updated Drivers, but that just cut sound altogether, so rolled them back to the previous.

Ideas? Anyone? Before I rip the soundcard out and jump up and down on it...which would admittedly stop the fuzziness

perhaps it is...

I just didn't want to scrap it if it was a software problem, but maybe I'd best just go buy a new and better one

I might need to get new speakers?
If the speakers are in the computer check the hardware.
That just might be the problem o_O
