RAM and Games, and blah blah blah.
I need some computer assistance since my brain seems to be fried for no reason. I am trying to Run two games on my computer, Oblivion, and Guild Wars. I know the requirments for the RAM and the graphics card and all that, but I'm really confused about the memory I need. I have 224-234 MBs of RAM, I need 512. I was wondering if I add a 512 RAM stick to my computer, without taking my old one out, would it be enough to run both games, without slowing my computer down. I think I'll probably invest in GBs, but, money is an issue right now...Thank you for your help, if you post here with ACTUAL advise.

Are you trying to run both games simutaeneously (however u spell it) and if add just add RAM, you need to make sure its matching (PC2300 etc). You will need to check specifications for your motherboard on that.

yes and no, you can add the 512mb RAM chip while having the 256mb Ram in also cause your computer will most likely have the 2 ports. However adding more Ram will improve the game quality and stuff but it wont do much, I also upgraded my Ram from 256 by adding a 512 also, I usualy run WoW and windows media player at the same time but my computer is just as slow as b4. RAM improved game play dramatically but when it comes to switching between games it will most likely to be just as slow. To make your computer faster you'll need a better microprocessor. Ram only tells the microprocessor what is to happen and in what order forexample when you hit a button on your keyboard, it tells what should be shown by hitting that button; Having more ram will improve when using one or two basic programs. Microprocessor tells the computer what to do, and sends information back and forth between hardware, to have it work faster youll probably have to invest in a new microprocessor. But since money is a problem, I guess your going to be playing one game at a time since Microprocessors sell for about 300-600 dollars american usualy

...no...the video card is what'll do all the difference in game play...it processes all the visualization...

...as a short-term solution, try lowering the video resolution in both games to the lowest settings. If that works OK, then an upgraded graphics card should allow higher resolution again

judging by the amount of ram you have said you have i'd think your running with onboard graphics which for gaming purposes is a looser to start with so i'd suggest the first thing you do is get a half decent graphics card with at least 256mb built in and then add 512mb of ram to your motherboard

I don't plan on running them at the same time. I just want to know if having them both will slow another down. My onboard Graphics card is fine with what it does, I just want my games to run smoother.

Running two active games are difficult even with the requirements . .
If it's an online game . .then it will really Lag the computer
The Packets it sends makes the computer read and recieve double if you're running the game together. .
My suggestion will be is too upgrade your memory and if that still won't work . . Buy a computer suitable for gaming . . . it has the equiped features.

3d games are both memory and cpu intensive. Adding memory will always help and usually helps more than upgrading your cpu as far as how fast your comp runs. You should also consider upgrading your graphics card.
