Default [SOLVED] Internet problems.

Well, obviously, I can get on the internet. But my homepage refuses to load (Google) . No matter what browser I use. MSN refuses to sign me in, no matter how many times I troubleshoot and sometimes things load slow.

When running the troubleshooter it says my gateway is offline, of course I click repair to no avail. I don't know what to do. I shut down my computer and use the surge protector and let it wait a minute or so before turning it back on. I don't know what else to do. Suggestions? I can get on a few sites. So I tried deleting my cache, my cookies and everything and the sites still work. So I guess I am getting a connection. >.< Yikes. This is annoying.

I also tried turning off my firewall. And system restore. So yeah, desperate times call for desperate measures. Heeelp meeeh.

I get that heaps but a spyware scan fixes it, what spyware system are you using? I have Zone Labs Security Suit....and that fixes that problem most of the time

If your computer is hooked up like mine with a modem, take the cable wire that is hooked to the computer and the modem and unplug it from the modem, then take the modems power cord out. Put the cable wire back in then put the power cord back in the modem. That's what I have to do when I switch the internet between my computers. And when the connection is weak.

Okie...since you say MSN is being a real bugbear..

Do you get any error codes, something like 81000301

If so, try typing "error + <error code number>" into google

otherwise, maybe something to look at:

(C/P'd from a MSN troubleshooting site re: gateway error)

1. The date on your computer needs to be set properly -- double click the clock verify that
the time and date are set.
2. If your password information is not saved, verify that you are typing it in with the
correct case (uppercase or lowercase).
3. Change your password @ https://login.passport.com/ChangePW.srf to
something smaller (under 10-12 characters), then try signing in again.
4. If you use a firewall (like ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security etc. ), it's possible
that Messenger doesn't have the correct rights to access the Internet, especially since you
upgraded. You may need to re/add Messenger to the allowed list of programs in your firewall
if this is the case.
5. If you disabled your firewall in the past, it still may be blocking Messenger -- try
restarting it and see if that helps the situation. You also might try uninstalling an
installed firewall, to verify that it isn't causing a problem (even if it is disabled).
6. Clear your IE cache and cookies -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then
Internet Options, then click the Delete Files button, and when that's complete click the
Delete Cookies button.
7. Check your IE Security settings -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then
Internet Options, then Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section, and verify that "Check
for server certificate revocation" is unchecked. Also verify that 'Use SSL 2.0' and Use SSL
3.0' is checked, then click OK.
8. Click Start, then Run, and enter the following:
regsvr32 softpub.dll
then click OK
and do the same for the following:
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll

Sorry for making you go through the work Rakka. Once I got google to work I googled the error code. To come up with it's probably a virus. Since my trend micro trial expired, I haven't gotten the latest virus updates. So I did an online scan and it found a virus which seems to be the cause. Thank you all for trying to help. ._.

Hiya Spreeseh

This happened to me a few weeks ago, and the only solution I found was to thoroughly go through my whole system. Took a little time but eventually I found a solution to the problem. Same one I invariably use if it's a bummer. Delete..........delete......delete.......

Works for me all the time, and I can still get on the net. If that fails call PC World, or your local computer store.........tell lots of lies that you purchased the computer from them, it's under warranty still and can they please guide you through the right procedure. Don't know about you, but I rarely follow what they say because I'm far too impatient.

Good Luck and I hope this advice is of some help.

Just so people can not have to give anymore time into helping me. Everything works fine for me. Thank you. I got into MSN and Cats idea was awesome. I'll try that sometime. XD

I agree with this outlook.....no reason to close a thread just for the sake of closing threads (unless the Original Poster has a good reason to want it closed - just drop a PM if that's the case) when someone may want to add something of future help to avoid a situation. If not, it'll die naturally. - Rakka
