Are you our saviour?
Okay there are some rather smart people here, and here is your chance to come up with an idea to save the world from potential cataclysmic disaster.
As you may have read about an asteroid around a half mile in diameter grazed past the earth, although there were no concerns of a collision, the asteroid just grazed us, passing just beyond the Moons average distance from Earth, which is a stones throw away space wise.
So do you have a method of preventing an asteroid colliding with the Earth?
What is your theory and how would you go about avoiding premature Armageddon?
I’m sure you’ll be able to correct each other and improve your methods based upon the information of others, so give it a shot.

Land on the asteroid, drill through the middle, apply the nuke deep within, and once on a safe distance, detonate and pat yourself in the back, because you just busted a "Armageddon"

First of all you'd have to take into account the actual asteroid is made of, how hard or how soft it is, some can be solid while others can be somewhat gelatinous, the good ol nuke tactic might not work as much as people think.

That's what the drilling is for, to soften it up:

Or, you don't even need to land on it (lol) and whatever, just nuke it from far away (no s hit) until it is completely destroyed and no longer a threat, or just enough impact to change it's course away from mother earth.
Or, this looks like a job for Superman. ^_^

my ideas
protective magnetic field ...only wud work if the asteroid was magnetised...if its not well go ahead and make it magnetised
ask it very nicely to hit pluto

Isn't that the plan if an asteroid is headed towards us?
meh not like the world leaders would tell us they would just go off on their little rocket to that secret space station they have for just that kind of event.
