Just recently I had a debate at work which was the better movie Troy or Gladiator?I like Troy. The only thing that I really disliked was how Troy died in the movie not to mention it was by the gutless and weak son but thats how the myth is.That would suck to die just from a arrow to the foot Lol.So drop a few lines to let me what you ppl think? Thanks

The answer to your question is obvious...it depends on what kind of person you are. If you are generally badly educated, frightfully brought up, not intelligent or 'deep', you would decide that Troy is a better film (the film crew completely changed the myth - they made it appeal to the popcorn-crunching, shallow, dull, section of the population, which happens to be the majority, in order to squeeze as much money as possible from the money-saving adults). For you would have fallen into the trap that you were supposed to have fallen in ...and it is a shame to do so, for it reveals certain details about your mental capacities. After all, are you a sponge which absorbs any kind of 'ordure' (look in a French dictionary for this word) which comes its way? I hope not.
Gladiator contains a rich collection of ideas, and it has a good plot, wondeful expression of feeling (thanks to R. Crowe), and it is in every sense a 'complete' film. The end is extremely positive, very poetical, and the drama and tension in the film build up to this moment (very well structured and thought out). It can teach us many lessons; that of the need of courage, determination, friendship, survival, and the fact that nothing is impossible; we can get whatever we desire, we just have to fight and fight and fight for it. In fact, I think it is a beautiful film, one of a rare kind. |

By the way, a city does not normally die, unless you wanted to sound 'poetic', and that I doubt.

Gladiator, purely because Troy had a bloody annoyin Orlando Bloom character in it. And Gladiator has MUCH better music.

I liked Gladiator better since I don't like Brad Pitt.

Though granted, it's a nontraditional ending. One has to look deeper to find the rightiousness hidden within.I love both films, but I like Troy better. The steady onslaught of the enormous Greek army, combined with the variety of personal battles (of which Gladiator only had the one private struggle) kept the pace of the film going in spite of its length. I did feel that Gladiator lagged at times (not unusual for a Ridley Scott film, though I still think he's brilliant!), and while both endings weren't necessarily upbeat, at least there was hope for the future of Troy's people with the sword being passed along. That's just my opinion based on a close call. I'm a little surprised that the results have been so overwhelmingly in support of Gladiator. |
