What is the point of music lessons? It only stuffs you singing up. Take pop singer like Brittany Spears or Jessica Simpson for example. They had music lessons and taught to sing through their nose and when they sing live it sounds horrible. Why can't people learn the way rock stars learn?
Take Bono for example he taught himself to sing and he sounds sooooooo good. Rock stars learn by imitating other singers which builds thier vocals naturally and they sing with their diaphragm aswell. Plus singing lessons cost too much anyway.

you can sing anyway you want.. but lessons can help get rid of raspiness etc..

it's all personal preferances I guess.

depends what they're singing.. a post hardcore or metal band screaming would sound good raspy..

but a rock band ... slower rock band I guess.. would need a beautiful voice. but then again, I guess I'm wrong.. listen to the Aganst Me! singer..

i had singing lessons as part of my music college course, and we were never taught to sing through our nose id go as far to say as we were taught NOT to do that, if you inhale through your nose the air takes longer to reach your lungs and it isnt as much of a shock on your vocal chords when you sing out, thats what we were taught to do, also there was lots of breathing excercises that improve your singing 10 fold, loads of learning how to extend breaths and sustain a note etc, it was pretty boring but useful i guess

ps. you should sing with your diaphragm, not your throat

and I'm not talking about the type of singing lessons that are taught in college I'm talking about those time wasting private lessons.
