Take Bono for example he taught himself to sing and he sounds sooooooo good. Rock stars learn by imitating other singers which builds thier vocals naturally and they sing with their diaphragm aswell. Plus singing lessons cost too much anyway.

i had singing lessons as part of my music college course, and we were never taught to sing through our nose

id go as far to say as we were taught NOT to do that, if you inhale through your nose the air takes longer to reach your lungs and it isnt as much of a shock on your vocal chords when you sing out, thats what we were taught to do, also there was lots of breathing excercises that improve your singing 10 fold, loads of learning how to extend breaths and sustain a note etc, it was pretty boring but useful i guess
ps. you
should sing with your diaphragm, not your throat
