pop ups

[Blindsided.]

ever since the other day I started getting pop ups for.. intelliton . com from chat avenue... every now and then I hear the "download complete" sound from internet explorer, upon opening certain pages on c/a forums.

now every website I visit, a popup for intelliton(sp) comes up... I'm wondering if the adware came from this site

anyone else have this problem? have a fix for this? ty

i dont know much about computers but i just press the button that says block pop ups at the bottom of the screen.

This one is ignored by my pop up blocker.. it comes up as I click on the page.

hmm i dont know then maybe try and get something different than internet explorer like mozilla

I like IE, unlike most people. I have no intent to get a new browser, and if I did my mom would freak out anyway. It's her computer, I can't save programs to it.

Then any advice about "do this", "block this" is pretty much irrelevant

only thing I can think of..if you can access it is:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

open hosts in notepad

add the line

127.0.0.1       intelliton.com

which should refer any instruction from intelliton.com to localhost instead of the intelliton ad servers if it is referred to by hostname rather than IP

Don't get the popups so not going to even try to check this but it can't help.

When saving the hosts file, just save it as hosts, no file extension (ie NOT hosts.txt)

don't worry about it. I put ad aware se on.. works alright.
