Default Are kids eating habits their faults or their parents?

For years obesity has been a problem, but it was only in teenagers and adults. Now it has spread on to the younger ones. Theres one question though, are they the ones to blame, or their parents. When a kid cries their parents are quick to feed them food, or candy which is mostly what they want. Fatty foods doesn't have alot of energy so they end up watching T.V or other lazy activities. Some argue that kids who are old enough should control what they are eating since they know better. What are your thoughts and comments. And whose fault is it really?

personally i think its both becoz if the kids live with their parents, obviously majority of them have to eat what is at home, their parents might not buy the healthiest food, but also, the kids can have self disapline of what to eat and what not to eat

Red face

I blame the Government.

They allow all the food to be sold, and they don't teach enough about healthy eating/cooking.

Depends on age.
Mostly it's up to the person/child, but- When there aren't healthy alternatives in the home/school [which can't be the case, so much anymore.] then it's unfair, children can't go out and buy fruits/vegetables, etc.

It also relates to the more 'busy' lifestyles people have, today, as in; convience foods, longer working hours, etc. Quicker [less healthy] foods are more common.

And, there's nothing wrong with having a 'treat' or a 'snack' as long as it's not all the time [moderation] mixed with a balanced diet, and most importantly excercise.

But yeah, children/teenagers/adults are responsible for their own actions; and as long as there's alternatives, it's their choice...

We can't blame children, because they can't understand the probelm of healthy/unhealthy foods . If they like a food they'll eat it no matters how unhealthy it is.
While teenagers and adults are more "mature" and they're supposed to be responsible for what they do.

I think it's down to the parents to a certain extent, as they're the ones providing the food (especially when the child is young) and they decide what to give them, regardless of it being nutritious/healthy/unhealthy..

However, when the child gets older, and they learn for themselves what foods are good/bad, it's mostly up to them to make the decision as to whether to eat it/buy it, or not..

So over all, depending on the age of the child/teenager, I reckon it's down to both of them.

It depends on the age of the child
but the parents should be teaching them healthy eating habits.

You have to take into consideration the junk food companies marketing
by putting ads on during children's programming and including toys with their products.

You can't expect a five year old to know about calories and nutritional value.

So i say it's up to the parents to lay the foundations of healthy eating

I'm sure happy Harold is out there teaching the kids about healthy eating.

This is a growing problem in America. Kids are eating entirely too much junk food. That is why a lot of schools have stopped selling soda and other sugar products.

Parents are also leaving their kids alone at home a lot more than they used to back in the day. The kids will eat what is fast and easy to make. And then, go a sit in front on the comp, TV, or video game console for hours on end. Can the parents be there 24/7 to supervise their kids' eating habits? No. But I'm a firm believer that 1 parent should be there if possible to make a healthy breakfast, pack a healthy lunch for school or make it for home, and plan a sensible dinner. Monitor what is being eaten for snacks, and limit time spent on TV/Games/computer. Its hard but not impossible.

Blame the people who make the food, they'd rather see a generation die, than lose money.
