Nintendo Wii Will Not Change Wii's Name

Many people thought that Nintendo was setting everyone up for a titanic practical joke when they unveiled "Wii" as the official and final name for the next generation Nintendo console.

Then E3 came and not only did Nintendo not "punk" everyone, they unveiled their totally "Wii'd" marketing platform, making "Wii" the official, final, and E3-certified name for Nintendo's next generation console.

Between Saturday and today Gamesforwii.net allowed a rumor to percolate that suggests that Nintendo will change the official, final, and E3-certified name for their next generation console. The rumor was also picked up and commented on by I4U.

I have been a critic of the Wii, but in this case, I will stick up for it, at least in name.

Nintendo is not changing the name of their official, final, E3-certified, and now patented name for their next generation console.

The rumor cites someone named "Mike" who claims to work in the marketing department for Nintendo.

"We have received over 200,000 e-mails with complaints about the Wii, and the console name has been commonly associated with urine. We have been the target of many jokes, and we strongly believe that it's a bad thing for the company's reputation", says Mike, who works at the marketing department of Nintendo.

Mike also adds that people are not taking this new console very seriously. In a recent poll, they found that 62% of gamers think "Wii" sounds childish, and 49% said they wouldn't buy the console judging only by its name.

Of course "Mike" doesn't cite where the recent poll came from. Certainly Nintendo did not conduct a poll asking people if they would not buy the Wii based on its name.

Mike is a hoax.

I posted it for the reason that no one liked the faggot name, and some thought of it changing it, yet again, was in place. But it didn't follow through. It's a rumor that some mysterious character, Mike, came up with, that was amusing, and sad for not being true.

What's the point in posting about a rumour that was clearly debunked ages ago?

What's the point in letting the people of Chat Avenue (if they're bothered that is or care) know that the console's name, will never change. Those that are not buying the system, wil not care. And those that are... buying the system. Have obviously come to terms with the name months ago.

Oh yeah, I can buy the system if I want. That's got nothing to do with anything though. No need to bring up irrelevant things into this matter.

But:

- You think the console is targeted at kids, and kids only.
- You think in general...only kids should buy it (The reason for that being, is that it was created / manufactured by Nintendo.)
- Ever since Nintendo reveiled the console, you've done nothing but insult it (Why I don't know. I mean...why would someone waste their energy, by cussing and insulting a piece of hardware )
- You think and you keep stating that the Playstation 3 "owns" the Wii

Now all of a sudden...you're making it known, that you have the ability to actually buy the console; if you feel like it or not.

Wow...just wow.

And yeah it is relevant. It's obvious you won't buy the console. Because otherwise, you'd prove to everyone that 1) You're a hypocrite, 2) That the Wii is infact a system that is aimed at people of all ages and 3) It's an interesting piece of hardware (it must be, seeing as it would have sparked your interest in it, in the first place).

The people of C/A is very few on the Video Games department. I thought the small minders here would find it interesting in knowing that another name change rumor was out there. Good for those people that are buying the system with the limited games. If those people can afford the PS3, then they would get that instead. I am sure those that are buying the system care not for the name. It's just as stated above, they are poor. The Wii is just something to entertain them, with their limited games, while the PS3 lowers their prices, and until the best games come out, say, MGS. Once the PS3 gets their grade-a games, then nothing can stop them now since nothing can compete with MGS, Tekken, DMC etc. ò_ó

I know what I said. I only like Pokemon though. Ever since a child. I used to like Super Mario Bros. But only 1, 2, 3, and Super Mario Land, with Yoshi. That's it. Everything else is mild. The Wii console has nothing to offer that interests me. Sony has my full attention, with their games, and their console. 360 can stand their own too. Nothing against them. I got the 360 sitting on my room with a limited amount of games, just waiting for Halo3, Gears of War, and the likes. But they can't compete with Sony's games. Perhaps only Halo3 and Gears of War. That's it. Unlike Wii, which have no games that I like. Perhaps Pokemon. Hah. But that's another story. ò_ó

The PS3 does "own" the Wii, with their games, and everything else. If the price wasn't so damn high, then everyone, or close to everyone, will agree. I have my reasons. I will buy the Wii just to have it. I'm weird and cool like that. I like going to Blockbuster or the likes, and rent a game for any system. If checked out for the PS3, then I'll ask for the 360. If that's checked out, then the Wii happily falls in as third replacement. Ofcourse, this ain't the main reason why I would buy such a console. Another is the price. I can easily afford it, and still have some leftover for a game like Pokemon. Which is one of the only games I like from them. Everything else sucks. ò_ó

Did I said I will buy the console on launch or anything? Perhaps you didn't understand me correctly. I meant, eventually. As to, in years. When the Wii cost around 100-150. It's not as interesting as you think. You would like to think so, but the PS3 is better in everyway, except, the price, as stated before, again. Once I see a game like Guns of The Patriots for the Wii, then I might change my mind. But for now, the PS3 is what I am more insterested in, in everyway. ò_ó
