Rights Being Taken Away

When 9-11 happened, America had to be given a choice, that some of our rights and freedoms (for us Americans) had to be compromised in order for the country to be safe and more secure.

Other things, such as the banning on cigarette smoking has already taken place in other countries, prohibiting anyone to smoke outside---while in the USA that right to smoke is being prohibited in most public places any more.

Then you have major taxes on cigarettes and sugar-based products (most notable 'candy'), in most states. Now this isn't a direct statement saying "Don't Smoke" or "Don't eat fattening foods", but with the rising costs of most things, especially petroleum, it might as well be saying "DON'T SMOKE, EAT CANDY, OR DRIVE, UNLESS YOU'RE RICH ENOUGH."

In such cases as 9-11, I can understand the reasoning in a situation like that, but for taxation and money making purposes, let alone some big wig in Washington telling us Americans what we can and cannot do, is absurd.

Case in point-

Freedom of Speech. We are told in the Bill of Rights that we have the freedom of speech, and freedom of press (all media in general); yet the FCC censors and filters, and people get sued for making statements that someone else disagrees with---where is the logic? Either we have the right or not. That's why I applaud the case of THE PEOPLE vs LARRY FLYNT, whom the Hustler magazine president made an article saying that Reverand Jerry Falwell had sexual relations with his mother---which was entirely fictional---but in the end Flynt won the case before the Supreme Court under freedom of speech.

What is the difference really between having an opinion, and something that is wrong?

The only thing I can think of myself personally is the MANNER of how the message or opinion is delivered. Myself I don't believe there is no such thing as a bad word or bad language; for instance:

"Your an ass-hole!" (laughs) not at all threatening, is rather humorous.

But if someone was to say: "You are an ass-hole!" (serious) then it is deemed immoral and threatening.

Believe me, when it comes down to it, things that are 'offensive' can only be deemed so in the minds of those who don't like it to begin with---not that it is truthfully offensive, it's all based on opinions, not that it really is so.

Another case in point-

Pursuit of happiness. How can anyone live a life of happiness when taxes are so damned high, and people are having a tough time making it, let alone try to better their lives or their education or careers, when the cash and the opprotunity is just not there?

In Texas there's a law against sodomy. Who in the hell wrote this into law? What if someone enjoys it? Who has the right to tell you what you can and cannot do in your own home, let alone the bed room?

There's so many things we are told we cannot do, everything from gambling to speaking what's on our minds---yet the big heads in Washington can write whatever they want into law, and take away what our founding father's created to begin with.

I will always remember my trip to Washington, D.C. when I was in the 8th grade. We went to the House of Representatives, and there in the house was over 500 people easy, to discuss Ohio's future on education. All the representatives were on cell phones, and the House leader said to them all "Ladies and Gentleman, if you're too busy please go outside with you cell phones, we have business to discuss."

I swear to God that only 30 people at best were left after the House chairman said that. Ohio's education was in the fate of 20-30 people. That just showed me that most people in power just don't give a crap about civilian's. And possibly the icing on the cake was later that night, they showed it on television---and if I'm lying I am dying---those *******s only showed the part of the room that had people sitting, making it appear that it was a full house.

Anyone have views on these issues of our rights?
