Thumbs down Religion

I myself, have no religion, but yesterday i witnessed the ceremony and session of praise that my grandmother, whom is pentecostal, a form of christianity, indures willingly every wednesday night and even twice on sunday.I hear alot about strange sacrifice and offerings given in foreign religions during worship, and i find it all ridiculous.I actually listened during the sermon, and, to my surprise, the bible actually talked of living sacrifice, a blood sacrifice. The preacher claimed nobody feared god as they should, and old traditions had been lost, they talked of bringing back a blood sacrifice for when they praised and worshiped their god, this seems something members of a cult would practice, but for it to be discussed in a modern day church was shocking.I am not infact trying to scare people out of christianity, or any other religion, but i am glad that i witnessed this madness before i commited myself to any religion, and i now know i never will.

1) Yes, this is true, the Bible does talk about such a thing. It was an ordinace established in the old Testament BUT IS NOT APPLICABLE TODAY (more on that in a bit). According to the Bible God is the first to sacrifice for man's sins.

Genesis 3:21 "Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them." Bear in mind Adam and Eve had already clothed themselves with fig leaves - Genesis 3:7. This early account is a clear indication that man can never do enough to cover his sins and "get right" before God.

Why would God require such a thing? Perhaps Levitucus 17:11 gives us one reason why. "For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the alter to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul."

(Just as a side note : this is actually a profound statement that the "life of the flesh is in the blood." we take it granted today because WE know that to be true but it was only 200 years ago that BLOOD LETTING WAS STILL PRACTICED. That is, draining the blood in order to cure sickness. This is how George Washington died by the way.)

take this Levitucus 17 verse with Ezekiel 18:4 "...the soul who sins shall die." and I think things maybe a bit clearer as to why a sacrifice of blood WAS (again, past tense) necessary. The punishment for sin is death ( spiritual not necessarly physical). As such AN EXCHANGE WAS NECESSARY in order to spare the life (spiritual) of the one who sinned.

This is clearly seen in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the Cross. The Old Testament system of animal sacrifices were a PRELUDE TO THE ONCE FOR ALL SACRIFICE OF JESUS.

There are many scripture verses that clearly point to this fact. Here is just one.
Hebrews 9:11-15 (verse 12 " Not with the blood of goats and calves, BUT WITH HIS OWN BLOOD, He entered the Most Holy Place ONCE FOR ALL, having obtained eternal redemption.") I suggest you read the entire passage there to get a clearer picture.

2) I agree with you, though perhaps for different reasons than yourself. For a Christian church to be actually concerding such a thing is shocking. For it would be returning to a sacrificial system THAT HAS BEEN ABOLISHED BY GOD THROUGH THE FINAL SACRIFICE OF CHRIST. It is not through the blood of animals that one is made right with God, but through the blood of Christ.

I have always said that everybody has a right to their own opinion, but saying religion is for losers is asinine. You need to learn how to respect others spiritual and religious beliefs.
