Question smoking cessation

Hi,

I need all types of support for quiting smoking!!!
I've been smoking since I was 12 y.o. and now I'm 40ish....
I have tried numerous times to quit, I quit for 2 years, I started again after becoming intoxicated.......I still endulge, however, I don't get intoxicated anymore.

Please, any advice would be grately appreciated. As I have cronic cough, shortness of breath and don't really want to smoke. I just can't stop!!!

Barbara

well quitting is not easy (even tho ii wouldnt kno cuz i never smoke) so maybe reduce the amount of cigarettes u smoke. So if u smoke 1 or 2 packs a day, only smoke 1/2 a pcak or just a couple cigarettes and the reduce from there

I don't smoke, but my hub does.. and has been since he was 13. He's 26 now.

I did try to get him to quit. Of which he did.. yay, but he was eating all the time and put on a little weight. You do need something (other than eating) to substitute that nicotine addiction. My mum use to smoke.. but it was easy for her because she only smoked for a few years and was able to quit cold turkey. My dad has been smoking for the past 30 years and he has tried several times to quit. He did try to quit earlier this past year. He was doing great because he was substituing his cigs for losanges *sp*. These losanges *sp* were suppose to help him to quit. Uh no. It was all temporary. He than forgot to take them and then started snacking. So the times he would be smoking.. he was eating. He gained about 10 pounds in one month.. than went back to smoking and lost all the weight. I don't smoke because I have asthma.. and not only would my hub kill me if I started, so would my dad, my sister and a few of my friends. So... I don't do it.

The only thing I can say is that theres no way to quit cold turkey, because you're gonna end up killing yourself or someone else for that matter. You need to find some kind of hobby or something to occupy the times that you would be smoking. Join the gym.. go hiking.. work out .. etc. If you need a support group.. so be it. Gooood luck, cuz you're gonna need it if you still decide to quit.

Smile smoking cessation

Thank you all for reading this, as I am new to this Chat. I have already planned a "stop smoking date" which will be Oct 9th. My kids will be home from school, they are a big help by telling me that I smoke way to much!! Besides that, I start a new position for a great company on the 10th. I have purchased that chewing gum and I'm having problems with my asthma of late. The time has come for me to grow up and do something right - not only for me, but my family too!

seXYbitCH?45......You were very nice with your reply. It isn't easy, I've tried numerous times in the past......however, this time I feel good about it!! I'll drop notes periodically to let everyone know how it's going!!

Sincerely,
Barbara

You can't just "stop" smoking. You either need alternatives, something to keep you busy, patches, chewies, etc... [At the start.]

I don't smoke, buuut- I know for a fact the whole substance; NICOTINE is addictive, [I.e. there's no control, even if you want to quit] thus- Obviously it's not so hard at first; but- Long term effects of this; [Almost 30 years.] would make it almost impossible to quit.

And decreasing it slowly yeah, isn't quitting but- It's PROGRESS.
You can't really beat smoking cold turkey.

But- It's good that you're attempting to quit.

Not sure what you're looking for on this forum but- There's help/quit lines that can give you more information or more positive feedback.
Once again, the crackhead replied with her usual argumental bullshit ..

if you don't wanna smoke, dont/ .. if you do.. then smoke.. if you try to quit, and smoke again, obviously you wanna smoke more than you wanna quit... you woudlnt smoke if you didn't want to at some point. saying you can't quit without nicotine patches and sh!t is retarded, like you.

ms emo having no self confidence or courage..
