Default Arthritis Pain sufferer, suggestions if possible

For quite a while, I have been suffering with arthritis pain, probably close to 17 years now. I do partly use that to blame for falling down the stairs 8 1/2 years ago, leaving me in a wheelchair for close to five months.

Anyways, that aside, I would love to know if anyone knows of something for my arthritis pain. It seems to be strongest in my legs, in my back, sometimes in my hands as well.

Any suggestions besides pain killers? thank you.

Well, I have used Pain Killers for many years prescribed by my Physician, but that doesn't seem to help the stiffness I feel in my back and moving my legs. You mention creams, I have not seen those but I will look into that, thank you.

Have you ever thought of buying yourself a T.E.N.S machine for the pain ??

For those of you who have never heard of T.E.N.S here is a explanation of what it is :

Tens uses a small electrical device to deliver electrical impulses across the skin as a way of treating pain. The device is about the size of a personal stereo although lightweight versions may not be much bigger than a credit card. The device is connected by wires to sticky pad electrodes that are placed on the skin in the area of the pain. This allows a small low intensity electric charge to be passed across the area.

Tens is thought to have two effects:

By selectively stimulating certain "non-pain" nerve fibres it may be possible to send signals to the brain that block other nerve signals carrying pain messages. Only the non-pain messages get through to the brain.

Tens is said to stimulate the production of endorphins, which are natural pain-relieving hormones produced by the body. The device is usually used for 15-20 minutes, several times a day, controlled by the user (rather than being given by a health professional). Pain relief may start very rapidly and last for days.

Unlike many pain relieving drugs, Tens is not addictive and seems to have few side effects.

Thank you all very much for your responses I will look into every single one of them. That T.E.N.S machine I have never heard of, and it looks real interesting.
