How does being gay/bi/lez/tran have an effect on your community?

Ok, thought I would liven u the forum a bit.

Tell us how your sexuality effects your community? As in, what activities d alot of your community attend with you, etc.

PS: sorry, I couldn't think of a better topic.

Finally, a good thread. I wouldn't say that my sexuality effects my community in a bad way, but I would say that my sexuality has a big impact in my school community and in my job. I am a highly decorated instructor at the Restaurant school at Walnut Hill College. Everyone has no problem with my sexuality because I am not one to flaunt out or lash at the world that I am gay. They even ask me for advice on relationships and I am one that everyone can talk to. At my job, I am a highly respected Chef and everyone loves the fact that I am myself and I love who I am in everyway. I help alot of people in my community who are afriad to come out and I try and make it easier for them to do so.

I'm sorry to hear Luka, maybe one day people in your community will accept the fact they you are a great person, no matter what you're sexuality is.

PhillyStorm, That is super. Its nice to hear that there are some lovely people left in your community. And its kinda sweet the way people ask you for advice.

In my community, I am accepted. I will admit, though, people didn't really like me in my community much. Once they started hanging out with me, they started to realize that I am a fun person to be around, on my good days.

IN my community, I've brought people together. Like, my weekend parties for instance. People that come hate the majority of the other people that come. But yet when I am there, its such a blast. I guess because everyone comes to me with their problems, and I'm always happy to listen and give advice or help direct them in the right way.

Anyway, any more replies? We're happy to hear them, good bad or ugly.

Lol, they don't know my sexuality. I mean that there's been a few people 'round my area that have came out as gay and they got firebombed out of their home. Tis why I'm not comin' out anytime soon.

Why would someone's sexuality have an effect on a community, unless it's a p.edo, someone highly promiscuous maybe with an STD or HIV, a homosexual/lesbian/bisexual who goes around said community attempting to convert others to being gay, or a heterosexual standing outside the school gate masterbating? Of course in very small staid communities people will be wary of anyone who's different, and it doesn't necessarily mean because of their sexuality. Might be because you're a different colour, culture, severely disabled and so on.

Also why would a community need to attend activities with someone because of their sexuality? I have gay friends galore and though we do have nights out together, I don't feel the need to frequent gay clubs over and above straight or attend the local "Oh I'm Gay and Victimised Anonymous."
