Default Hair Question.....

Feel free to move this if this isn't in the appropriate forum.

Do Women's Hair grow faster than Men's?

I notice that my hair grows very slowly. A few years ago me and my lil cousin got our heads shaved, but her's grew back faster than mine did.

So could it be possible?

I don't think it's necessarily a male/female thing. It's more of an individual thing... your diet and how well you take care of your hair can affect the growth of it from what I've heard.

I think the most surprising thing about this thread is that you’re male.

Mine grows back real quick.
A week after getting a haircut, it's near enough back to the same length again.
But everyone is different, so it's not uncommon that her hair grew faster than yours.

The answer is no

The average person has around 100,000 strands of hair on their head and the average rate of growth is a mere one-half of an inch per month.

That's a maximum of 6 inches a year

By the time the ends of your hair actually grow down to your shoulders, they are approximately two years old.

If your body is healthy and well nourished, your hair will be your shining glory.

On the other hand if you are having any health problems or suffering from any nutritional deficiencies, your hair may stop growing or show damage.

B-6, biotin, inositol and folic acid, protein, beta-carotene are all essential "hair vitamins"

I got my info from here:

Actually..
I am a Hairdresser, and I will tell you the facts..
On average am Man hair grows, quicker due to more haircuts, (i.e, If the man has short haircuts regularly)
As for Women, they tend to have less cuts then Men , unless they have short Hair..
It does depend , on the diet.
A secret to make hair grow Quicker , after a hot , shower Wrap cling wrap around your head, and the warmth, keeps the root active longer , so hair grows Quicker..

Few Facts about Hair...

Important points for accelerating hair growth.

Cleaning hair pores.
The hair of people who have thin hair is usually fine but there is also a large
clearance between the hair pore and hair shaft. Eventually, the pores tend to be blocked by dandruff
or waste matter on the scalp.
Therefore, as the first step, it is necessary to clean the pores and scalp in order for liquid ingredients
to penetrate deeply into the hair root.
This will stimulate the area around the hair matrix and hair root. Improve the activity of the skin function!
Stimulate the activity of the reticulo endothelial function!!
Activate the function of tissue cells!!!
Activation of hair papilla.
A disordered hair matrix cannot produce new hair, through its inability to absorb amino-acid, to make polypeptide
and to turn it into Keratin, even if the capillary vessel carries nutrition into the hair root.
Hair Growth Accelerators or Restorers contain various effective ingredients to accelerate the reproduction of
healthy new hair.
Reinforcement of the capillary vessels, carrying nutrition to hair papilla.
Amino-acids, especially Sistine, are essential for the healthy growth of hair. Weak capillary vessels cannot furnish
enough nutrition from foods to hair papilla, furthermore they cannot support the growth of new hair.
The ingredients of Hair Growth Accelerators or Restorers prevent contraction of the vessels, expand the vessels
and stimulate blood circulation.

---------------

Production mechanism of hair.

Though it is different from the skin in many ways, hair, like the ***** epidermis, is derived from cells.
Nutrition is carried through capillary vessel to the hair bulb. A small mass of cells at the base of the hair follicles,

called the "Matrix", produces hair.
Hair grows and pushes up to the surface of the scalp. Hair grows about 0.2 to 0.4 mm per day and the sebaceous

gland also secretes serum to prevent hair and skin from drying out.
Hair is composed of a cuticle on the outside, usually a medulla in the center, and a cortex between the two organs.
The cuticle is formed of a single layer of scales with the free margins diverted toward the tip of the hair. The scales
protect the inner part of the hair.

---------
Hair is formed of a combination of protein called Keratin and Water.

Karatin is harder and stronger than the protein of the internal organs of the human body. Keratin yields several kinds
of amino-acid by hydrolysis.
The amino-acids composing Keratin are as follows;
Glutamic acid, Threonine, Valine, Cystine, Methionine, Alanine, Isoleucine, Tryptophan, Phenylalanine, Arginine, Proline,
Lysine, Serine, Glycine, Histidine, Aspartic acid, Tyrosine and Hydroxylysine.
