Companies marketing to gay/lesbian markets
I am doing some research for my dissertation and wondered if I could get some comments on the following please:
Are there any cases where you would automatically chose a company/product to buy, based on it's 'gay-friendly' views and attitudes/advertising/contributions?
(e.g. chosing a product as you know they sponsor gay events)
Also, do you think that if a company has a strong lesbian and gay diversity policy, they are more likely to target the lesbian and gay market?
(do you know of any companies which have good or poor GLBT diversity policies)
My dissertation is on gay consumer purchase behaviour and wondering if there are any cases where the image of the company/product influences the decision to buy more than the product itself.
Thank you for you comments/views!

Although I'm gay, I only buy things tht I feel are right for me, it has nothing to do with any marketing ploys, and, unless u were to tell the company tht ur gay in the 1st place, how would they know if ur gay or str8? I once had a firm telephone me, asking if I would be interested in computers for my 17 yo kids, I don't have children and told them so, but they never asked if I would be interested in one for myself, but then tht could have been my fault, as my Phone No is not listed and I was more concerned with how the obtained it.

I do not favour, I do not see why I should.
If I see a rainbow in a shop window, I might go in to see whats up, hoping a bargain is at hand.
First thing I will look at is the prices, then do a value for money comparison.
If I dont see what I want, or items priced competively, rainbow or not I will be outa there like a dog after a motorbike, gay store keeper or not.
Hopes this helps..

The only "gay-friendly" places that I know of are in a section of the city of Philly called "The Gayborhood". Also, in a town called New Hope, not too far from me. As far as my shopping habits go, if I see something in a store window that I like, I'll look at it up close, gay-friendly or not. And if I wish, I'll purchase it. Now as far as gay products, like flags or other pride paraphanalia, if I'm in the mood, I might get a bracelet or a necklace. Or, if a T-shirt has some cute saying on it I'll get it.

You edited mine. =o
And okays, now I can say what I thought I said. I'm going insane, btw.
---
I wouldn't necessarily buy anything because it's gay friendly. Like many others, I'd buy something, because either I want it, or I like the look of it, or if it's a sale.
I've not seen any shops that influence gay memorabilia, unless it's a s ex shop. ((No I don't buy anything from them-- what do you think I am?! ))
Only 'gay' clothing I have is a T-Shirt that says ''Relax, don't do it, when you wanna c um.''
But nah, I don't think so.
