Question Question for parents Re: Childrens education.

I am curious to know how many parents actually start saving for thier childs education when they are born? Or while they are still young?
(Honest answers please)

I wanted this thread in adults for the obvious reasons..Most parents or the ones I want answers from are adults. I also pm'd an adult UM to make sure the thread was ok.

I'm surprised this thread didn't attract some posts considering there's many of us in here with kids.

Anyhow I think it's more commonplace for parents in the USA to start a college fund early for their child(ren). Here most parents kind of meet it as it comes. Education is free, unless children are in private education, so I guess it's generally accepted that those parents have the means to send them to exclusive colleges and universities. In answer, I didn't save for my daughter's education, nor did her father. She is going to Uni this year, so I guess both he and I will support her financially until she's finished. I do think though that now more than ever, parents in the UK should be encouraged to open some kind of school education fund, the minute their child is born, with perhaps the government topping that up with a fixed amount.

Haha well to me the lack of responces said..Not many or none started saving for their childs education when they were born. I could be looking at it wrong though. Anyways, I don't honestly care. I understand that probably most parents were/are busy trying to meet bills and whatever else they have to pay out due to living. Then times passes and it's to late. I was just curious because, I honestly can't think of many or any people who have set aside money for kids education. I can think of one set of grandparents who have done this for their grandkid but, that's all. Like you my parents never started anything in that direction either but, I know they would support me finanically.. while I furthered my education. They'd probably be relieved I even decided to go further with my education

PS. You can close this thread if you want Cat. I don't think anyones answering it anyways. Lol.

Cherryz, I started saving for my son's education before I ever gave birth. Instead of baby shower gifts, I asked for savings bonds which we have set aside for him. When I was working, a portion of my paycheck went into savings bonds for him and anytime we got a tax refund check, that money was invested into mutual funds and cds for him. He is 10 yrs old now, a straight A student, and has more money than his dad and I do As for my other son, the one we adopted 2 yrs ago, we weren't able to start saving for him from day one, however he gets a monthy check from social security for his bio-dads death in 2000, and all that money is set aside for him. Hopefully, they will both go to college, but if they don't, they can use the money to start their own lives
