Default Does eating watermelon replace your electrolytes?

I heard this.. from somebody.. and I am skeptical.

Soo.. rather than research it myself I figured one of the nerds might answer up here.

Does it?

I'm not sure. I mean an electrolyte is a free ion and you need ions (particularly sodium, chloride, potassium) to conduct electrical impulses between neurons and muscle cells. So if watermelon has these ions then sure I guess...

I know sports drinks, like gatorade, have electrolytes so that when you're exercising (because you lose electrocytes when you sweat) they are replaced and the natural concentration of these ions in your body is maintained.

I have no idea what's in watermelon. So I couldn't tell ya.

EDIT: OH!! i googled it....so it has a high level of potassium so yes it's a good source of electrolytes...BUT ONLY that one ion....you'd have to consult other sources for Na+ and Cl-

As long as you stop drinking water and don't eat plant food you should be okay.

On topic: I used to eat watermelon all the time when I was feverish or couldn't eat solids. Easy to digest and provided some nutrition.

Whoever invented gatorade is a genius...honestly. I think it was a great invention. I've never drank it before, but just the theory behind how it works sounds so great.
